A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ANAHEIM APPROVING A THREE YEAR COOPERATIVE
FIRE PROTECTION AGREEMENT WITH THE
CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF FORESTRY AND FIRE
PROTECTION, AND AUTHORIZING THE ANAHEIM FIRE
CHIEF TO EXECUTE THE OPERATING PLAN AND ANY
OTHER DOCUMENTS REQUIRED IN CONNECTION WITH
THAT AGREEMENT
WHEREAS, the City of Anaheim has maintained an Agreement with the
California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection ( "CAL FIRE ") since 1992, for CAL
FIRE to provide fire protection for 2,342 acres of land in Anaheim's wildland area which
is owned by a private company that reimburses Anaheim for the cost of CAL FIRE's
services; and
WHEREAS, Anaheim now desires to enter into a three year fire protection
Agreement with CAL FIRE for the 2013/14 through 2015/16 fiscal years, and to expand
CAL FIRE's services to include an additional 2,063 acres of land in the East end of the
City which is designated as a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone; and
WHEREAS, the cost of protecting the 2,342 acres of privately owned land will
continue to be borne by the private company, and the cost of protecting the additional
2,063 acres will be borne by Anaheim.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Anaheim as follows:
1. The City Council of the City of Anaheim hereby authorizes and approves a
three (3) year Cooperative Agreement, commencing on July 1, 2013 and
ending on June 30, 2016, with the California Department of Forestry and Fire
Protection ( "CAL FIRE ") for CAL FIRE to provide fire protection for 4,405
acres in Anaheim's wildland area.
2. The Anaheim Fire Chief is hereby authorized to execute the Operating Plan
required for the aforementioned agreement with CAL FIRE, and to execute
any other documents or take any other actions necessary for implementation
of that agreement.
