Cultural and Heritage 2013/07/18 MINUTES CULTURAL AND HERITAGE COMMISSION MEETING LOCATION TIME Downtown Anaheim Community Center July 18, 2013; 6:30 p.m. 250 E. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting of the Cultural and Heritage Commission was called to order by Vice Chair Maya at 6:31 p.m. 2. SCHEDULED COMMUNICATION: None. 3. UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: None. 4. CORRESPONDENCE: None. 5. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Vice Chair Maya made a motion to approve the minutes for the June 20, 2013 meeting; Commissioner Deneau made a second and with two abstentions, the motion passed. 6. NEW BUSINESS: Nominations & Election for Chair/Vice-Chair: Commissioner Romero nominated Vice Chair Maya for the Chair position and he accepted the nomination. Commissioner Castillo seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. Vice Chair Maya nominated Commissioner Castillo for the Vice-Chair position and she accepted the nomination. Commission Deneau seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. 7. GALLERIES SUBCOMMITTEE: A. Appointment to Sub-Committee: Vice-Chair Maya stated there is a vacancy in the Galleries Sub- Committee. Vice-Chair Maya and Commissioners had a brief discussion regarding the Galleries and Art Facilities sub-committees. Vice-Chair Maya appointed the following: 1. Commissioner Pettigrew Galleries Sub-Committee 2. Commissioner Romero Galleries Sub-Committee 3. Commissioner Rodriguez Art Facilities Sub-Committee Vice-Chair Maya reported due to the cancellation of the August show at the Center Gallery, he and Alone Larse 8. ART FACILITIES SUBCOMMITTEE: Commissioner Deneau reported the sub-committee will be taking a field trip to visit the Cerritos Performing Arts Center. Janis Heckel stated she will be coordinating the site visit and the sub-committee will meet with staff onsite to ask questions regarding operations of the facility. INFORMATION ITEMS: Each Commissioner and City staff introduced themselves to the new Commissioners. A. Commissioner Castillo: Commissioner Castillo reported the Center Gallery art opening and the Art Crawl th is scheduled for August 10. th Commissioner Castillo hopes to have the gallery owned by The Lab running by August 10. Vice-Chair Maya suggested contacting an Instagram group to send in photos to the gallery. Commissioner Castillo stated she will look into it. B. Commissioner Deneau: No report. th C. Vice-Chair Maya: Vice-Chair Maya is looking forward to August show opening on August 10. D. Commissioner Pettigrew: No report. E. Commissioner Roditis: Commissioner Roditis was absent. F. Commissioner Rodriguez: No report. G. Commissioner Romero: Commissioner Romero reported that he also serves on the board for Anaheim Beautiful. H. Staff: Janis Heckel reported the following and answered questions: 1. An art mural that will be installed at Paul Revere Park consists of art interpretation provided by students of Paul Revere Elementary School to the artist. 2. Anaheim Community Foundation to purchase a new mobile stage. The goal is to raise $100,000 and the campaign will begin in August. 3. Four summer concerts will be held at Ronald Regan Park. 4. Performances which include Taiko Drums, Magic and Anaheim Ballet are scheduled at the Pearson Park Amphitheatre. 5. Two jazz concerts sponsored by the Anaheim Rotary Club will be held at Oak Canyon Nature Center with a beer and wine garden in August. Jane Newell reported the following: 1. Anaheim Alumni Association is currently researching Veterans of Anaheim who attended Anaheim High School. 2. The opening of Farmers Park was well attended. 3. Mills Act Historic Surveys are currently being reviewed with the help of a part-time Librarian. 4. collections projects. th 5. Woelke-Stoffel House woodwork refinishing project began on July 15. th 6. . 7. The Woelke -Stoffel House roofing project will go to bid soon funding will be finalized and plans have been approved. Vice-Chair Maya recommended a future Cultural and Heritage meeting to be held at the Woelke -Stoffel House. Commissioner Deneau requested staff to look into installing chimney tops onto the Woelke -Stoffel House. Jane Newell stated she will look into it. Thursday, August 15, 2013, 10. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be held on at 6:30 p.m. at the Downtown Anaheim Community Center, 250 E. Center Street, Anaheim. 11. ADJOURNMENT: Vice-Chair Maya adjourned the meeting at 7:51 p.m.
