RES-2013-169RESOLUTION NO. 2013 - 169 A RESOLLTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM IN SUPPORT OF HOUSE RESOLUTION 30 AND URGING THE UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE TO TAKE ALL APPROPRIATE MEASURES TO ENSURE THE CONTINUATION OF 6 -DAY MAIL DELIVERY SERVICE WHEREAS, the United States Postal Service has announced that it may need to reduce the frequency of its mail delivery service from 6 days a week to 5 days a week; and WHEREAS, 6 -day mail delivery service is an essential service that our community has relied on since 1912, particularly our working families that depend on the Postal Service for the timely delivery of their paychecks; and WHEREAS, for many in our community, Social Security is the primary or sole source of income and any delay in the delivery of Social Security checks would make it difficult for many to purchase even essential items, such as food and medicine; and WHEREAS, reducing mail delivery service to 5 days a week would inevitably cause not only delays in the delivery of mail, but higher postal costs, due to the many hours of additional overtime that the Postal Service would require in order to keep up with demand. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Anaheim as follows: That the Anaheim City Council formally supports the continuation of 6 -day mail delivery service and urges the United States Congress and the United States Postal Service to take all appropriate measures to ensure the continuation of 6 -day mail delivery service; and That the City Clerk is directed to send this Resolution to the President of the United States, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, the President of the United States Senate, and the Honorable Members of the 113th Congress representing the City of Anaheim; and THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION, is approved and adopted by the City Council of the City of Anaheim on this 5th day of November , 2013, by the following roll call vote: AYES: Council Members Eastman, Murray, Brandman and Kring NOES None ABSENT None ABSTAIN:Kayor Tait CITY OF ANAHEIM B : M OR OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM ATTES CITY CLERK OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM
