98-028RESOLUTION 98-~ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM ESTABLISHING A SISTER CITY RELATIONSHIP WITH THE CITY OF VITORIA-GASTEIZ, ALAVA, SPAIN WHEREAS, the Sister City Program was inaugurated by the President of the United States in 1956 to establish and foster greater friendship and understanding between the people of the United States and other nations through the medium of personal contact; and WHEREAS, the citizens of the Cities of Anaheim, California and Vitoria-Gasteiz, Alava, Spain, through their respective representatives, have expressed their willingness and desire to become sister cities and to share ideas and encourage exchanges that will lead to a lasting friendship between them; and WHEREAS, it is anticipated that the sister city relationship will provide opportunities for cultural, sports, educational, and business exchanges between the two cities; and WHEREAS, the Anaheim Sister Cities Association Board of Directors has recently voted unanimously to establish a sister city relationship with Vitoria-Gasteiz and recommend that the City Council ratify this action by Council resolution. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Anaheim that there is hereby established a formal sister city relationship between the City of Anaheim and the City of Vitoria-Gasteiz, Alava, Spain. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Anaheim that a cordial invitation is hereby extended to the City of Vitoria-Gasteiz, Alava, Spain to engage in a program to promote mutual understanding, cultural and student exchange and economic cooperation between the Cities of Anaheim, California and Vitoria-Gasteiz, Alava, Spain.
