Services Superintendent Jane Newell, Heritage Services Manager Eleanor Granflor, Senior Secretary AGENDA ACTION TAKEN CALL TO ORDER: Chair Pettigrew called the meeting of the Cultural and Heritage Commission to order at 6:33 p.m. 2. SCHEDULED COMMUNICATION: Janis Heckel introduced Dorothy Rose, Executive Director, of the Orange County Symphony. A short video clip was shared showcasing the Orange County Symphony. Dorothy Rose presented information and background of the Orange County Symphony, the resident symphony of the City of Anaheim that is based at Servite High School. Dorothy Rose reported the Orange County Symphony has a new conductor, Maestra Aline Sardeo. There are nine scheduled concerts for the 2016-2017 season. 3. UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: None. 4. CORRESPONDENCE: Chair Pettigrew shared the newsletter from the Anaheim Art Association. 5. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Commissioner Roditis made a motion to approve the August 18, 2016 meeting minutes; Commissioner Rodriguez seconded the motion. Motion passed. Commissioner Roditis made a motion to approve the September 15, 2016; Commissioner Asad seconded the motion. Motion passed. 6. NEW BUSINESS: A. QR Code Signs — Center Street Promenade: Janis Heckel stated that she met with Community Development staff regarding the installation of QR code signs for the art on Center Street Promenade. Preliminary approval has been received for a sign to be installed for each piece of art. Staff will work on the new QR code signs to include the new "Ctr City" brand. Staff will also be able to track how often the signs are viewed. 7. OLD BUSINESS: A. Arts Council Meetings: Janis Heckel reported she attended the last Anaheim Arts Council meeting. The program featured a creative writing project "Finding My Voice, Telling My Story" at Ponderosa School. 500 children participated in the program. The next Anaheim Arts Council meeting will be held on November 3rd at the City Hall Council Chambers featuring the Art in Public Places Program. Janis Heckel will email the Commission meeting information. B. Public Art Projects: 1. ARTIC — Janis Heckel reported the grand staircase art installation date is still pending. 2. Ponderosa Park Family Resource Center — Janis Heckel reported that more information will be shared when the project is near completion. C. Poet Laureate: Janis Heckel has been working with Library staff to develop a poet laureate program. It will be brought to the Commission once it is finalized by City staff. 8. GALLERIES SUB -COMMITTEE: Janis Heckel announced that the next exhibit will be "Ordinary Beauty" featuring the paintings of Michael Ward. MURALS SUB -COMMITTEE: Commissioner Roditis reported the sub -committee met after the September Commission meeting; Commissioner Filbeck will be the committee Chair. 10. ART IN PUBLIC PLACES SUB -COMMITTEE: Chair Pettigrew stated that Commissioner Adelekan and Vice Chair Hamida have requested to be removed from this sub -committee and appointed Commissioner Asad to the sub -committee. 11. INFORMATION ITEMS: A. Commissioner Adelekan: None. B. Commissioner Asad: Commissioner Asad reported that he contacted a French artist for a possible exhibit. Commissioner Asad stated the artist lives in Paris, France and will request information regarding the cost to have an exhibit shipped to the United States. Commissioner Asad will also forward information to Jane Newell for a possible exhibit at the MUZEO. C. Commissioner Filbeck: Absent. D. Vice Chair Hamida: Vice Chair Hamida reported that past Commissioner, Chris Maya, has an event today at the Anaheim Brewery for the release of the La Morena bottle label. E. Chair Pettigrew: Chair Pettigrew reported he went on an art tour in Palm Springs. F. Commissioner Roditis: Commissioner Roditis requested that Orange County Symphony be added to the November agenda for discussion and possible action. G. Commissioner Rodriquez: None. H. STAFF: Janis Heckel: Janis Heckel reported the Pearson Park Amphitheatre hosted the last summer event of the season, the Anaheim Mariachi Festival, presented by Rhthymo. The Disneyland Resort presented a $10,000 grant to Rhthymo for the mariachi band instruction to be expanded. Janis Heckel reported that an average of 800 people attended the Pearson Park Amphitheatre Family Series shows. Jane Newell: Jane Newell reported that the Euclid Library Grand Opening will be held on October 24th and the Sunkist Library Grand Opening will be held on October 25tH Jane Newell shared an information flyer for the Anaheim Public Library's BIG READ program. Jane Newell reported the Ice Cream social event held at the Woelke-Stoffel House was a success and the Woelke-Stoffel renovation is now complete. Photos of the renovation were shared with the Commission. Jane Newell reported the Founders' Park project bid opening will be held on November 17tH 10.
