ACTION TAKEN
1. CALL TO ORDER: Chair Hamida called the meeting to order at 6:29 p.m.
2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Chair Hamida.
3. UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: None.
4. SCHEDULED COMMUNICATION: None.
5. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Chair Hamida presented the July 19, 2018 minutes to the Commissioners for changes
or corrections. Commissioner Alvarez made a motion to approve the July 19, 2018 meeting minutes, seconded by
Commissioner Daniels; the minutes were unanimously voted in favor. Chair Hamida accepted the minutes.
6. SUB -COMMITTEES:
a) Center Gallery: Holly Unruh reported the next exhibit "Pushpa Sahu. Colors and Patterns: Capturing a Fleeting
Magic" Opening Reception will be on September 6t". The Commissioners were encouraged to invite artists to submit
applications for the 2019 calendar year.
b) Public Art Program: None.
c) Multi -Cultural Event: Commissioner Alvarez presented the proposal for an annual multicultural event in the City of
Anaheim. Commissioner Alvarez made a Motion to submit the Proposal to the City Council, seconded by
Commissioner Daniels. The motion was voted in favor unanimously; Chair Hamida accepted the motion.
d) Poet Laureate: Chair Hamida introduced the Poet Laureate, Grant Hier. Mr. Hier reported that he has been meeting
with people throughout the community and provided an update regarding the Poet Laureate Welcoming Day and the
duties of the Poet Laureate. A discussion was held regarding future funding for the Poet Laureate Program. Chair
Hamida made a recommendation for funding to be created for the Poet Laureate Projects and Activities.
e) Heritage: Commissioner Daniels reported the proposal is currently being finalized.
INFORMATIONAL ITEMS: Commissioner Alvarez shared an update for the mural that was painted on the wall of the
City Church. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will be held on August 26th
8. ADJOURNMENT: Chair Hamida adjourned the meeting at 7:26 p.m.
