2003-172RESOLUTION NO. 2003R- 172 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF OF POLICE, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM, TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION TO THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, COPS OFFICE, FOR THE "COPS SAFE SCHOOLS INITIATWE" GRANT PROGRAM WHEREAS, the City of Anaheim has been selected to participate in a grant program designated "COPS Safe Schools Initiative" grant program, to be funded by the 2003 Federal Appropriations Bill through the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS); and WHEREAS, the "COPS Safe Schools Initiative" grant program provides funding to state and local agencies to assist in delinquency prevention, community planning and development, school safety resources and technology development; and WHEREAS, the City of Anaheim wishes to submit an application for the "COPS Safe Schools Initiative" grant program to fund salary and benefits for five (5) Safe Schools Officers to provide gang diversion and crime prevention activities to protect students and school personnel in the City of Anaheim from gang and youth violence. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Anaheim as follows: The Chief of Police of the City of Anaheim is hereby authorized, on behalf of the City of Anaheim, to submit an application for the "COPS Safe Schools Initiative" grant program, and to execute, on behalf of the City of Anaheim, all required grant documents, including any extensions and amendments thereof, under the program and funding terms and conditions of the U.S. Department of Justice, and that the cash match will be appropriated as required from the Police Department's FY 2003/04 budget. The grant funds received hereunder shall be used for salary and benefits for five (5) Safe Schools Officers to provide gang diversion and crime prevention activities to the school districts within the City of Anaheim to protect students and school personnel in the City of Anaheim from gang and youth violence, and shall be used to supplement, and not to supplant, local funding. o It is agreed that any liability arising out of the performance of this grant award, including civil court actions for damages, shall be the responsibility of the grant recipient and the authorizing agency. The Federal Government and U. S. Department of Justice disclaim responsibility for any such liability.
