RES-1989-277RESOLUTION NO. 89R-277 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM APPROVING TWO LETTERS OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE CITY OF ANAHEIM AND THE ANAHEIM MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES ASSOCIATION PERTAINING BEREAVEMENT LEAVE. TO WHEREAS, on December 15, 1987, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 87R-510, approving a Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Anaheim and the Anaheim Municipal Employees Association General Unit; and the City Council adopted Resolution No. 87R-511, approving a Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Anaheim and the Anaheim Municipal Employees Association Clerical Unit; and WHEREAS, the Labor Relations Director met and conferred with officials and employee representatives of the Anaheim Municipal Employees Association to discuss specific concerns relative to amending the Bereavement Leave Articles of said Memoranda of Understanding; and WHEREAS, two Letters of Understanding dated November 18 and November 22, 1988, between the parties have been prepared and signed amending the Bereavement Leave provisions of the current Memoranda of Understanding, said amendments to be effective June 23, 1989; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Anaheim does find that it is in the best interests of the City of Anaheim to approve said Letters of Understanding. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Anaheim that the Letters of Understanding dated November 18 and November 22, 1988, between the City of Anaheim and the Anaheim Municipal Employees Association, copies of which are attached hereto and incorporated by reference herein, are hereby approved and said Memoranda of Understanding are hereby amended in accordance with the terms of said Letters of Understanding. CITY CLERK OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM LETTER OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE ANAHEIM MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES ASSOCIATION CLERICAL UNIT AND THE CITY OF ANAHEIM The Anaheim Municipal Employees Association, Clerical Unit and the City of Anaheim, after meeting and conferring, have reached an understanding to amend Article 33 Bereavement Leave, as follows: 33.0 ARTICLE 33 BEREAVEMENT LEAVE In the event a death occurs in the immediate family of a full-time employee, the employee shall be granted bereavement leave with pay for up to a maximum of twenty-four (24) working hours. "Immediate family" shall be defined as any relative by blood or marriage who is a member of the employee's household, under the same roof, and any parent, foster parent, step-parent, spouse, child, brother, or sister of the employee, or any parent, foster parent or step-parent of the employee's spouse, regardless of residence. 33.01 In the event a death occurs among other family members of an employee, the employee shall be granted bereavement leave with pay for up to a maximum of eight (8) working hours. Other family members shall be defined as grandparent, grandchild, daughter-in-law, son-in-law not under the same roof of the employee; and any grand- parent, grandchild, child, brother, or sister of the employee's spouse, regardless of residence. 33.02 Bereavement leave may be used only at the time a death occurs, or to make burial arrangements and/ or to attend funeral or memorial services. 33.03 The City will guarantee, that in addition to the above, employees may use all available vacation on the books up to forty (40) hours. If no vacation is on the books, the City guarantees the employee the ability to use leave without pay up to forty (40) hours.
