A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ANAHEIM TO PROCLAIM MAY 30, 2020, AS THE CLASS
OF 2020 DAY, TO HONOR ANAHEIM STUDENTS WHO
ARE GRADUATING OR BEING PROMOTED; AND
PROVIDE DIRECTION FOR OTHER CLASS OF 2020 CITY
RECOGNITION OPPORTUNITIES
WHEREAS, on March 11, 2020, the State of California determined that mass gatherings
should be postponed or cancelled across the State to prevent the spread of COVID-19 virus; and
WHEREAS,on March 19,2020,the State of California determined that all residents should
stay at home except for essential work and outings to prevent the spread of COVED-19 virus; and
WHEREAS, school districts and colleges across California have postponed or cancelled
traditional graduation and promotion ceremonies for students of the class of 2020; and
WHEREAS, most schools are coordinating virtual graduation and promotion ceremonies
to recognize their students; and
WHEREAS, the City of Anaheim has many college graduates, high school seniors and
sixth- and eighth-grade students who were set to graduate or be promoted in spring 2020; and
WHEREAS,the students of the class of 2020 should be recognized for their many years of
educational achievement,hard work and perseverance; and
WHEREAS, the class of 2020 has overcome many obstacles and accomplished their
educational goals toward taking the next step in their future; and
WHEREAS, the class of 2020 will continue their quest for knowledge and discover their
own unique ways to contribute to our society; and
WHEREAS,the class of 2020 is equipped with the skills and knowledge attained in school
to help achieve their academic and career goals; and
WHEREAS,the class of 2020 reflects the support and dedication to the success of students
in Anaheim by their families, educators, school staff, community organizations and mentors, and
local businesses; and
WHEREAS,the City Council honors and celebrates Anaheim students of the class of 2020
for their academic achievements and wishes them the best of luck as they continue their journey
towards a successful future.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Anaheim
proclaims May 30, 2020, as the Class of 2020 Day, to honor Anaheim college graduates, high
school seniors, and sixth- and eighth-grade students who are being promoted; and encourages all
residents, public agencies, businesses, and local community entities in Anaheim to join in
celebrating our city's Class of 2020 on May 30,2020.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council directs city staff to implement
strategies to properly recognize the class of 2020 utilizing city facilities, communications and
partnerships.
THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION is approved and adopted by the City Council of the
City of Anaheim this 12 day of May , 2020 by the following roll call vote:
AYES:Mayor Sidhu and Council Members Faessel, Barnes,
Brandman, Moreno, Kring, and O'Neil
