88-182RESOLUTION 88-R-182 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM SUPPORTING PROPOSITION 70, THE CALIFORNIA WILDLIFE, COASTAL, PARK LAND CONSERVATION ACT OF 1988. WItEREAS, Proposition 70 is an initiative which would provide $776 million statewide to provide wild habitat for park lands and coastal areas and to provide revenue opportunities for the benefit of present and future generations of California; and WHEREAS, these lands are a vital and necessary part of our community and help to preserve the quality of life and all of California; and WHEREAS, these lands are an essential part of our State's unique and natural habitat preserved; and and irreplaceable and must be WHEREAS, this initiative would provide $166 million for per capita grants to cities and counties to be used for priority park and recreation projects; and WHEREAS, the Orange County area including cities and districts, will receive approximately $29.6 million in direct grants from the passage of the California Wildlife, Coastal, Park Land Conservation Act; and WHEREAS, this initiative will provide an additional $26.5 million for specific acquisition and development projects within the Orange County area that will benefit all residents of the area; and WHEREAS, these specific Orange County projects include wetlands restoration, preservation of open spaces, and completion of Chino Hills State Wilderness Park, California's first urban wilderness park; and WHEREAS, a Statewide coalition of civic and conservation groups and businesses have formed, as Californians for Parks and Wildlife (CalPAW), to seek voter approval of the California Wildlife, Coastal, Park Land Conservation Act of 1988 Initiative on the June 7, 1988 State Ballot. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Anaheim endorses Proposition 70, which would provide statewide funding for parks and recreational land development and acquisition, wildlife habitat and coastal acquisition and development and other related purposes. THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION is approved and adopted by the City Council of the City of Anaheim this 3rdday of May, 1988.
