AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM AMENDING
TITLE 18, CHAPTER 18.62, SECTIONS 18.62.020,
18.62.030, 18.62.090, 18.62.155 AND 18.62.180
OF THE ANAHEIM MUNICIPAL CODE, RELATING TO
SIGNS, ADVERTISING SIGNS AND STRUCTURES.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM DOES ORDAIN
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1.
That Title 18, Chapter 18.62, Sections 18.62.020 (d);
18.62.030 ( j ) and (1) ; 18.62.090 (b) - (1) and (i) ; and 18.62.155
of the Anaheim Municipal Code be, and the same are hereby
amended to read as follows:
"SECTION 18.62.020 CLASSIFICATION OF SIGNS.
"(d) NAME PLATES: This category shall include lighted
or unlighted signs identifying the occupant of the premises."
"SECTION 18.62.030 DEFINITIONS.
"(j) WALL SIGN: A sign which is affixed to an exterior
wall of any building or which is affixed to any structure
attached to the building, provided that all of the following
conditions exist:
(1) Such wall sign shall have only one display surface;
(2) Such single display surface shall be placed
parallel to and in front of any exterior wall of
the building;
(3) Such sign shall not project over or into any public
right of way;
(4) Such sign shall not project above the parapet or
eaves of the building;
(5) Such single display surface shall not project
more than sixteen (16) inches beyond the wall or
structure to which it is attached.
"(1) AREA OF SIGN: The area of a sign shall include the
entire area within any type of perimeter or border which may
enclose the outer limits of any writing, representation, emblem,
figure or character. The area of the sign having no such per-
imeter or border shall be computed by enclosing the entire area
constituting the advertising message within a parallelogram or
triangle."
"SECTION 18.62.090 OTHER COMMERCIAL ZONES -- BUSINESS
SIGNS PERMITTED.
"(b) FREE-STANDING SIGNS.

(1) NUMBER OF FREE-STANDING SIGNS PERMITTED: One (1)
multi -faced free-standing sign, designating the
principal uses of the premises, shall be permitted
for any amount of street or highway frontage exist-
ing on any one parcel of property. An additional
free-standing sign shall be permitted for each
additional three hundred (300) lineal feet of street
or highway frontage in excess of the first three
hundred (300) lineal feet of such frontae;
provided, however, when more than one (1� free-
standing sign is permitted, no free-standing si n
shall be located closer than three hundred (300 feet
from any other free-standing sign or roof sign
located on the same parcel of real property.
"(i) NAME PLATES: In addition to (b) , (c) , (d) , (e) , (f) ,
(g) and (h) above, one (1) lighted or unlighted name plate of a
maximum of two (2) square feet in area."
"SECTION 18.62.155 COMMERCIAL USE OF RESIDENTIAL
STRUCTURES -- SIGNS PERMITTED.
"The commercial use of a structure originally designed or
intended for residential use shall not be subject to the sign
restrictions of this Section if authority for such commercial use
is granted pursuant to Title 18 and, in the opinion of the Chief
Building Inspector or his designated representative, there has
been significant alterations in the pre-existing external resi-
dential appearance of said structure. Any determination as to
such external alterations made by the Chief Building Inspector or
his authorized representative shall be subject to review by the
City Council if review is requested by any person aggrieved by
the decision of the Chief Building Inspector or his authorized
representative."
SECTION 2.
That Title 18, Chapter 18.62, Section 18.62.180 of the
Anaheim Municipal Code be, and the same is hereby amended by
adding thereto Paragraph (c) reading as follows:
"SECTION 18.62.180 INTENSITY OF LIGHTING AND DIRECTING
OF LIGHTING OF SIGNS.
"(c) No illuminated sign shall hereafter be erected or
constructed unless the illumination of said sign is 250 -foot
lamberts or less as said foot lamberts are measured on any sur-
face, and there shall be a statement of the manufacturer attached
to the sign indicating that said sign does not exceed 250 -foot
lamberts as measured at any surface. Such measurement shall be
established by any light measuring device approved by the Chief
Building Inspector. Said illumination measurement shall exclude
the effects of other light sources and shall exclude the effects
of other external conditions which would affect the foot lamberts
illumination of said sign."
SECTION 3.
The City Clerk shall certify to the passage of this
ordinance and shall cause the same to be printed once within
fifteen (15) days after its adoption, in the Anaheim Bulletin, a
newspaper of general circulation, printed, published and circulated
in said City, and thirty (30) days from and after its final passage
it shall take effect and be in full force.
