A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA, IN SUPPORT OF THE
ESTABLISHMENT OF A VETERANS CEMETERY IN
ANAHEIM
WHEREAS, California is home to more veterans than any other state; and
WHEREAS, the majority of California's veterans live in Southern California, with more
than 10,000 veterans living in the city of Anaheim; and
WHEREAS, the nearest currently open veterans cemetery to Orange County is the
National Cemetery in Riverside, California; and
WHEREAS, the County of Orange has identified an appropriate parcel of land, gifted by
the Irvine Company, within the city of Anaheim which is an ideal location for a veterans
cemetery; and
WHEREAS, a broad coalition of city and county leaders, veterans organizations and
community groups support siting the Southern California Veterans Cemetery in Anaheim at the
county -owned Gypsum Canyon site in Anaheim in District 6.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Anaheim
that the City of Anaheim hereby supports the establishment of a Veterans Cemetery in Anaheim
at the Gypsum Canyon site.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Anaheim City Council encourages our Orange
County legislative delegation to work towards establishing a Veterans Cemetery in Anaheim at
the Gypsum Canyon site.
THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION is approved and adopted by the City Council of the
City of Anaheim this 20thday of July , 2021 by the following roll call vote:
AYES: Mayor Sidhu and Council Members Faessel, Diaz,
Brandman, Moreno, Valencia, and O'Neil
