RESOLUTION NO. 64R-639 '
A RESOLUTION OF THE CiTY GOUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF ANAHEIM DECLARING THE URGENT NECESSITY FOR
THE EARLY SCHEDULING OF CONSTRUCTION OF ROUTE
57 FREEWAY AND URGING THE CALIFORNIA STATE
HIGHWAY COMMISSION TO SCHEDULE ROUTE 57 FREEWAY
FOR IMMEDIATE CONSTRUCTION,
WHEREAS, the California State Highway Gommission has
not established a time schedule for the construction of Route
57 Freeway from the Santa Ana Freeway to the Pomona Freeway;
and
WHEREAS, said State Highway Commission has invited
interested parties to a meeting to submit evidence on the
matter of the urgency of the scheduling of construction of
Route 57 Freeway; and
WHEREAS, at the confluence of the Santa Aha Freeway
and the Garden Grove Freeway, there is concentrated an ever-
increasing traffic burden from beach, mountain and desert
communities; and
WHEREAS, the normal population and industrial growth
of the City of Anaheim has increased and is increasing traffic
in the area through the channels of the Riverside and Newport
Freeways; and,
WHEREAS~ the completion of Route 57 Freeway is vital
to relieve the traffic burden of present freeways concentrated
between the cities of Anaheim, Orange and Santa Ana to the end
of establishing traffic flow north to the Riverside Freeway
and north to the Pomona area; and
. WHEREAS{ to the presently established major tourist
attractions withzn the City of Anaheim, there is being added
the immediate construction of the approximately 45,000 seat
Anaheim Stadium for major league baseball and other sports
events to be located adjacent to Route 57 Freeway; and
· WHEREAS, such tourist and crowd drawing facilities as
Dzsneyland, Melodyland Theatre, Anaheim Stadium and Anaheim's
newly conceived Convention Center, all contribute to the
traffic demand and desperately need the immediate construction
o~ Rout~ 57 Freeway to provide proper traffic circulation to
make such entertainment attractions available by direct route
to the residents of the East San Gabriel Valley; and
WHEREAS, the immediate construction of Route 57 Freeway
will not only afford relief to an existing traffic flow fully
justifying the circulation element it will provide, but
immediate construction is essential so that Route 57 Freeway
will be completed to meet, as soon as possible, the April 1966
demands of the Anaheim Stadium.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Aneheim that it declare and it does hereby declare
that there is an urgent need for the immediate construction of
Route 57 Freeway from the Santa Ana Freeway north to the City
of Pomona.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council urge
and it does hereby sincerely urge, recommend and request
the California State Highway Commission to schedule Route
57 Freeway for immediate construction, said City Officials
being of the considered opinion that construction of said
Freeway Route 57 is the best and most expeditious solution
to the traffic circulation problems created by the population
and entertainment explosion and the concentration of freeway
termini in this area.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of
this Resolution be delivered to the California State Highway
Commission for its consideration and to aid it in its
deliberations.
