A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ANAHEIM AMENDING CITY COUNCIL POLICY 2.2
RELATING TO POET LAUREATE FOR CITY OF ANAHEIM
WHEREAS, on September 26, 2017, the City Council added City Council Policy 2.2
entitled "Poet Laureate" to the City Council Policy Manual; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to amend City Council Policy 2.2 to update the
eligibility and selection process in order to enable a more expansive search for the Poet Laureate.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Anaheim as
follows:
Section 1. City Council Policy 2.2 entitled "Poet Laureate" is hereby amended to
revise Section A. ELIGIBILITY, Paragraph 1 as follows:
"A. ELIGIBILITY
1. In determining an individual's eligibility to apply for selection as the Poet Laureate,
an individual must meet the following criteria:
(a) The applicant must demonstrate a significant and meaningful tie to the Anaheim
community for a minimum of five years.
(b) The applicant must be at least 21 years old.
(c) The applicant must have demonstrated a commitment to poetry through prior
publication.
(d) The applicant must have demonstrated experience and commitment to the spoken
word by giving public performances.
(e) The applicant must have demonstrated an ability to teach workshops and lead
collaborative community partner events."
Section 2. City Council Policy 2.2 entitled "Poet Laureate" is hereby amended to
revise Section C. SELECTION PROCEDURE AND PROPOSAL ASSEMENT,
Paragraph 1 as follows:
"C. SELECTION PROCEDURE AND PROPOSAL ASSESSMENT
All applications will be reviewed by a selection panel chaired by a Cultural and
Heritage Commission member. The selection panel shall be comprised of the
Cultural and Heritage Commission member and four (4) members from any of the
following organizations:
• Any arts organization in the City of Anaheim
• Anaheim Public Library board
• Any School District in the City of Anaheim."
Section 3. All other paragraphs of Policy No. 2.2 shall remain in full force and effect.
Section 4. This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon adoption

City of Anaheim this28 day of September , 2021, by the following roll call vote:

Ma'ae, Moreno, Valencia, and O'Neil
