RESOLUTION: Councilman Krein expressed the opinion that subject request was rea- sonable, and thereupon offered a resolution granting said Variance, subject to certain conditions~ City Attorney, Joseph Geisler, was of the opinion that the filing of a Letter of Agreement for removal of the smaller sign from the future right-of-way could p~ssibly create a problem at the time of street widening and improvement. Councilman Krein suggested that a condition be added to provide that ne. ~verhang over the future right-of-way be allowed. Mr. Winterberg n~ted that any relocation of the smaller signs would interfere with the path of traffic in the staticn, and he further stated they would agree that the future removal of the sign would be at no cost to the City. He further noted that when actual widening took place the station would have to be relocated on the lot. C~uncilman Chandler suggested that necessary dedication be accom~ plished mt this time, and the City issue an Encroachment Permit to allow the sign until widening is commenced. City Engineer, James P. Maddox, called attention to stree improve- ment in the area schedoled for the current year, and advised that additional dedi,~tion ~ thr~e ~eet on Bsll Ro~d, and fifteen feet along Harbor Boulevard, plus c~r~er radiu~ ret~rn, wo~id be necessary. Mr. Mc Milian advised they would like to work with the City Staff on future dedication and the modification te the service station, and he requested that the identification sign be deleted from subject Variance and consideration be given to the ~reeway oriented sign o~ly. Councilman Krein withdrew his resolution to grant said Variance and moved that the public hearing be reopened and continued to November 7, 1967, to allow the Petitioners an opportunity to work with the City Engineer- ing Staff~ to determine and accomplish necessary dedication for street widen,~ ingo Councilman Dutton seconded the motion. Mr. Jenkins reported that all regulations for the system, such as schedule, s, prices, safety, otc., will be under the jurisdiction of the Public Utilities Commissic~n cf the State cf California, and that the system will be a c~mpletely automated system, with central traffic cpntrol~ He further r~p~rted that the type ~pf system employed would depend ~n the engineering and feasibz~lty stndies, and that these studi~,s will c©st an apprcximste $250,000°00. Mr~ Je~kins was ~f the opinion that many objections of private property ~.wp~rs c~cid be eliminated by installing a hanging or suspended system, rather than the m~.norail type, and with reference to the parking revenue, Mr. Jenkins noted <~ccasions 'when, at the present time, the parking area was insufficient to acc~)mm~date the Stadium, Disneyland, and the Buena Park Shopping Center, and further advised that it would be their proposal to take people to these area~ fromm a central st~ti~n~ He d~ubted if the system would replace those providing their own transportation and using the parking lot. Mr~ Jenkins stated that Anaheim would be the heart of the system, ~nd if they expanded the s.ystem t~) such areas as Santa Ana and Los Angeles, they wc.uld ~ed large parking facilities to accommodate those people leaving their' ~ars. Further, they were not trying to replace any present transit in the City of Anaheim, but where adequate transit is not available, they would like t~ have a ~tand~rdized feeder' s~stem, such as buses, to Autonetics, Garden.
