5939ORDINANCE NO. 5939 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM AMENDING SECTION 1.04.857 OF CHAPTER 1.04 OF TITLE 1 OF THE ANAHEIM MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO THE SESQUICENTENNIAL COMMISSION THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That subsection .035 be, and the same is hereby, added to Section 1.04.857 of Chapter 1.04 of Title 1 of the Anaheim Municipal Code, to read as follows: ".045 Alternates. At its sole discretion, the City Council may appoint alternates to serve in the absence of members of the Commission. An alternate so appointed shall serve and act as a member of the Commission, with all powers and privileges of membership, only during the absence of the specific member for whom such person was designated as the alternate. Alternates shall be subject to appointment and removal in the same manner as members of the Commission. An alternate shall be required to have the same qualifications for Commission membership as the member for whom such person serves as the designated alternate. An alternate shall serve a term or period of service coterminous with the term or period of service of the member for whom such person is designated as the alternate. The City Council may appoint more than one alternate for any member in which event the alternates shall serve in the order designated by the City Council and only one such alternate shall serve during the absence of such member. The City Council need not appoint an alternate for every member of the Commission." SECTION 2. SEVERABILITY The City Council of the City of Anaheim hereby declares that should any section, paragraph, sentence or word of this ordinance of the Code, hereby adopted, be declared for any reason to be invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the validity or enforcement of the remaining portions of this ordinance; it being the intent of the Council that it would have passed all other portions of this ordinance, independent of the elimination of any such portion as may be declared invalid.
