WHFREAS, Charles ~Ao Pearson has served the City of Anaheim ~aithfull¥
and with honor and distinction for thirty-three years, and
WHEREAS, durin9 his tenure in office Anaheim has grown from a city
of approximately 9,000 population to one of more than 100,000 population, and
WHEREAS, in addition to serving the City as the first Secretary of
the City Planning Commission, as City Councilman for twenty-five years, and
as Mayor for nineteen years, he has served as a member of the Board of Directors
of the ~etropolitan Water District, Executive Director of the American Municipal
Association representing the Pacific Coast membership~ President of the League
of California Cities~ and as a member of the Governor's State Highway Committee,
a member of the State Resources Committee of the League of California Cities,
Director of the Orange County Water District and 3oint Outfall Sewer Committee,
and as President of the Associated Chambers of Commerce, and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Anaheim that we do hereby express to Charles A. Pearson our deep personal ap-
preciation and gratitude and {he appreciation and gratitude of the citizens and
residents of the City of Anaheim for the distinguished services he has rendered
to the City and its citizens and residents in the many positions he has held
durin9 his tenure of office and particularly as Mayor and as a member of the
City Council, and for his wise counsel and leadership, good judgment and sound

WHEREAS, Charles Ac Pearson has served the City for twenty-five years
as a member of the City Council and as its Mayor~ with great credit to himself
and distinction to the City of Anaheim$ and
WHEREAS, the City COuncil does find and determine that something should
be done that will constitute a permanent recognition of the invaluable service
rendered to the City of Anaheim by Charles Ac Pearson$ and
WHEREAS, the City Council does find that an appropriate method of
recognizing said service and expressing the gratitude of the City Council and
the people and residents of the City of Anaheim to Charles A. Pearson will be
achieved by naming the City Park in his honor°
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Anaheim that the public Park located between Lemon Street on the East and Palm
Street on the West, Cypress Street on the South and Sycamore Street on the North,
within the City of Anaheim~ known as the Araheim City Park~ bey and the same is
hereby, renamed The Charles A~ Pearson Park, and shall henceforth be known
and designated by that name~ in grateful recognition of the distinguished service

TRAFFIC SIGNAL - BROOKHURST AND CRESCENTt Action by the City Council on agreement
with County of Orange for joint installation of traffic signal at Brookhurst and
Crescent, was held over to April 26, 1960 for further information, on motion by
Councilman Coons, seconded by Councilman Chandler° MOTION CARRIED.
CROSS TOWN SUBURBAN BUS LINES, INCo - BUS STOPt Mr. Robert Davis, Administrative
Assistant, submitted for reconsideration the matter pertaining to the establishment
of a bus stop on the south side of Chestnut Street, west of Los Angeles Street.
A restudy of the area and plans for the widening of the alley was presented and
explained by Ntt. Davis~
Mr. Charles Black, Agent, Western Greyhound Lines and operator of the
bus terminal in the Pickwick Hotel~ presented a letter received from William Do
Borne of the Cross Town Suburban Bus Lines, notifying him of the discontinuation
of the use of the bus terminal facilities° Mr° Black questioned why the new
location was requested, inasmuch as the terminal facilities were adequate to
accommodate this lineo
He was advised that the request was considered because of the narrow
width of the alley~ which could not accommodate their buses.
In view of information presented to the Council, Councilman Coons moved
that this matter be set over to May 3, 1960, and that Mr. Black and also Mr. Bourne
of the Cross Town Suburban Bus Linesi, be notified that a change in the action
previously taken by the City Council is contemplated9 and in the meantime, no action
will be taken on paintin9 the curb redo Councilman Chandler seconded the motion.
MOTION CARRIED.
BUILDING - 711 SOUTH EAST STREET: Me building being constructed at 711 South
East Street, adjacent to the Eo Do Johnson Company, which is within the 60 foot
P-L setback requirement in violation of Ordinance NOo 878, was considered.
Mr. McPherson, contractor, advised that to move the building back would
be quite expensive as the foundation and rough plumbin9 are already installed.
It was determined that a ~ariance would be necessary and must be applied
for and processed in accordance with lawo
BROADWAY - LA PALNUI ANNEXATION - GEN~O: Mro Leonard Smith, representing Gemco, 2700
Lincoln Avenue, addressed the Council, explaining that this operation is under
the jurisdiction of a County zonln9 and if annexed to the City of Anaheim will
become R-A property° He explained their future plans of development and con-
struction of a warehouse with a service department, and requested either assurance
of favorable zoning for their activities or that this property be excluded from
the proposed annexation.
Although no formal action could be taken, it was the consensus of
Council opinion, that commercial zoning to allow expansion and future development
of the already established commercial use, would be a reasonable request°
SYCAMORE STREET: Councilman Chandler brought up the matter of the congestion of
Sycamore Street and requested that investigation be made into the possibility of
eliminating parking on the north side of Sycamore Street, between Olive Street
and the Railroad tracks~
APPOINTN~ENT - DEPUTY CITY CLERK: City Clerk, Dene Mo Williams, appointed
Aloha Mo Farrens, Deputy City Clerk for the City of Anaheim°
Said appointment was ratified by the City Council on motion by Councilman
Coons~ seconded by Councilman Thompson. MOTION CARRIED~
TRACT NO. 3278: On the recommendation of the City Engineer, payment to the
Pacific Telephone and Telegraph ComDany of $1,353~00 representing their portion
of $3,009000 deposited by Johnson for the removal of poles and lines within
Tract Noo 3278, was authorized on m~tion by Councilman Coons, seconded by

He was advised that the protest must be in writing and contain the 'Sign-
ature of the owner of the property and sufficient information to enable the
Clerk to identify the property on the last equalized assessment rollo
It was moved by Councilman Ooons, seconded by Councilman Chandler,
that the hearing be continued to May 10~ 19607 to allow an additional ten days
for the filing of supplemental protests to the annexation° MOTION CARRIED.
CONTINUED PUBLIC HEARING - HOUSE MOVING PERMIT: Public hearing was continued
from the meeting of April 19, 1960 to allow further Council investigation on
the application submitted by Mro F. 3~. Patin requesting permission to move a
dwelling from 810 West Katella Avenue to 1825 West Orange Avenueo
Mro Patin addressed the Council, clarifying the ownership of the
property and advising of his plans for locating the building and improvlng the
general appearance of the propertyo
Mro Clarence Loftus, 1855 orange Avenue, addressed the Council,
approving said house movingo
The Mayor asked if anyone else wished to address the Council~ there
being no response, declared the hearing closed°
RESOLIfrION NO. 5964: Councilman ChanSler offered Resolution NOG 5964 and moved
for its passage and adoption, granting house moving permit, as requested,
subject to the following conditions:
1o Dedication of 32 feet from the centerline of Orange Avenue to
the City of Anaheim for future street:widening°
2o Prepare street improvement plans and install all improvements in

PUBLIC HEARING - HOUSE MOVING PERMITt Public hearing was continued from the
meetin9 of April 12~ 1960 on the application submitted by Frank $tueckle for
permission to move a dwelling from 533 West Center Street to 115 Stueckle Street°
The Mayor asked if anyone wished to address the Council~
Mr. Jo A. Richards, resident in the area, asked if Zeyn Street would
be extended through southerly°
He was advised that it could or could not be extended, that the property
was presently zoned R-3 and a garden-type R-3 development could be constructed
without the continuation of the street°
Mro Richards called attention to the possibility of land-locking some
of the property if other buildings were moved in. He stated he realized that
the property has to be developed, but wanted assurance that the development would
not become an eyesore to the communit¥o

Mro Frank Bruce, 8061 Moraga, asked what type of petition wa~s '~.equired
to protest the annexation°
He was advised that the protest must be in writing and contain the Sign-
ature of the owner of the property and sufficient information to enable the
Clerk to identify the property on the la.st equalized assessment rollo
It was moved by Councilman COons, seconded by Councilman Chandler,
that the hearing be continued to May 10, 1960, to allow an additional ten days
for the filin9 of supplemental protests to the annexation° MOTION CARRIED.
CONTINUED PUBLIC HEARING - HOUSE MOVING PERMITI Public hearing was continued
from the meeting of April 19, 1960 to allow further Council investigation on
the application submitted by Mr o F. 3~ Patin requestin9 permission to move a
dwelling from 810 West Katella Avenue to 1825 Wes% Orange Avenue°
Mro Patin addressed the Council, clarifying the ownership of the
property and advising of his plans for locating the building and improving the
general appearance of the propertyo
Mro Clarence Loftus, 1855 Orange Avenue, addressed the Council,
approving said house moving°
The Mayor asked if anyone else wished to address the Council, there
being no response, declared the hearing closed°
RESOLIfflON NO. 5964~ Councilman Chandler offered Resolution No° 5964 and moved
for its passage and adoption, granting house moving permit, as requested,
subject to the following conditions~
1o Dedication of 32 feet from the centerline of Orange Avenue to
the City of Anaheim for future street widening°
2o Prepare street improvement plans and install all improvements in
accordance with approved standard plans on file in the office of the City
Engineer~ on Orange Avenue°

On roll call the foregoing Resolution was duly passed and adopted by
the following vote:

The Mayor declared Resolution Nco 5964 duly passed and adopted°
PUBLIC HEARING - HOUSE MOVING PERMIT~ Public hearing was continued from the
meeting of April 12, 1960 on the application submitted by Frank Stueckle for
permission to move a dwelling from 533 West Center Street to 115 Stueckle Street°
The Mayor asked if anyone wished to address the Gouncil~
Mr. Jo A. Richards, resident in the area, asked if Zeyn Street would
be extended through southerly.
He was advised that it could or could not be extended, that the property
was presently zoned R-3 and a garden-type R-3 development could be constructed
without the continuation of the street°
Mro Richards called attention to the possibility of land-locking some
of the property if other buildings were moved in. He stated he realized that
the property has to be developed, but wanted assurance that the development would
not become an eyesore to the community°
