RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF A NAEE IN
RELATING TO 1-lANDATORY
RETIREHENT OF LOCAL SAFETY I.iEMBERS
TO DESIGNATED INDIVIDUALS

vffiEREAS, Section 20980.1 of the Government Code permits local safety members
of the Public Employees' Retirement System who are credited with less than twenty
years of service on the effective date of the adoption of increased retirement
benefits by their employers and have attained age 60, or who will attain age 60
before completion of twenty years of service, to continue employment, at the option
of the employer, beyond the age of 60 until the age of 65, completion of twenty
years of service, or expiration of five years from such effective date, whichever
first occurs; and
vIT{EREAS, the City will adopt increased retirement benefits for its local safety
members under Section 21252.01, Government Code, effective July 2, 1971, and
~m~REAS, the City Council desires to exercise such option with respect to
all local safety members eligible to be continued in employment beyond age 60;
NOH THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council that the city official
in the designated position is hereby directed to effect continuance of all eligible
local safety members after age 60 under Section 20980.1, Government Code, by
certifying such names to the Public Employees' Retirement System prior to the
date on which the member would be mandatorily retired:
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby directed to file a certi-
fied copy of this resolution with the Board of Administration, Public Employees'
Retirement System.
