A RESOLUTION OF THE CI'I'Y COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ANAHEIM SUPPORTING THE PERIPHERAL
CANAL AS A KEY FEATURE OF THE STATE WATER
PROJECT.
WHEREAS, in connection Witll the State Water Project
and the Federal Government's Central Valley Project, the
Secretary of the Interior has approved the feasibility report
on the Peripheral Canal which will transport water around b~e
delta of the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers; and
WdEREAS. said Peripheral Canal is, contrary to certain
spurious attacks thereon, essential to the State Water Project
and to the Central Valley Project in that as a joint use
facility it will benefit wildlife, sport and commercial fish-
eries, agriculture and tile entire ecology of the delta area,
and
~~EP~AS, it is in tile best interest of the City of
Anaheim and all other participants in tile State Water Project
that this essential element of said project in the form of
the Peripheral Canal be approved and constructed and that tl1e
Governor of the State of California be urged to give prompt
approval of b~e feasibility report on said canal forwarded to
the State of California by the Secretary of the Interior.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
tile city of Anaheim that it affirm and it does hereby affirm
its vigorous support of the Peripheral Canal and it does hereby
urge Governor Reagan to give approval to the feasiblity report
on said Peripheral Canal at the earliest opportunity.
BE IT FUP~HER RESOLVED ti1at the Congress of the United
States be and it is hereby urged to enact appropriate legisla-
tion to the end that e~e Peripheral Canal may become a joint-
use facility of the State v~ater Project and the Federal Central
Valley Project.
p~D BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolu-
tion be forwarded to the Governor of the State of California and
to the Orange County representatives in the Congress of the
United States.
THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION is approved and signed by me
this 3rd day of March, 1970.
