RESOLUTION$F THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ANAHEIM SU .PORTING ENACTMENT OF SENATE BILL 752
AND HOUSE F REPRESENTATIVES BILL 2790 TO
INCREASE T CONTROL OF SALINITY IN THE
COLORADO RI,VER.
WHEREAS, tqe Colorado River system provides California,
and Anaheim in part~cular, with a substantial amount of the total
water used to susta~n its economy, and either supplements or is
the sole source of ~rban water supply for over 12 million people
in California, and ~rovides for about 700,000 acres of irrigated
agriculture; and
WHEREAS, pJblic Law 93-320, enacted in 1974, established
the Colorado River ~asin Salinity Control Act to help alleviate
damage caused by th~ relatively high salt content of the waters of
the Colorado River; iand
WHEREAS, C~ntinued salinity control is necessary in the
Colorado River beca se of the damage increased salinity causes to
agriculture, water istribution facilities, water-using appliances,
water quality and t. the potential re-use of reclaimed water; and
WHEREAS, S~nate Bill 752 (Armstrong) and House of
Representatives Bil] 2790 (Kogovsek) have been introduced in the
United States Congr~ss to amend the Colorado River Basin Salinity
Control Act and furUher its goals by authorizing construction of
additional salinityicontrol units, to establish a salinity control
action program for ~he Department of Agriculture, and to provide
for needed technical changes in the law.
NOW, THERE~ORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of
the City of Anaheim 'supports Senate Bill 752 and House of Repres-
entatives Bill 2790iand directs that copies of this Resolution be
sent to the authorsiof the proposed legislation, Senator William
L. Armstrong and Co~gressman Ray Kogovsek, to Senators Alan
Cranston and Pete Wilson, and members of Congress representing
California.
