RESOLUTION NO. 80R- 130
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF ANAHEIM SUPPORTING ASSEMBLY BILL 2182 THAT
ESTABLISHES A JOINT RESEARCH STUDY ON THE
IMPACTS OF WATER DIVERSIONS FROM MONO LAKE.
WHEREAS, on September 25, 1979, the Anaheim Public
Utilities Board sent a letter to the Mono Lake Interagency
Task Force recommending that further study be made for the
impacts on reduction of Los Angeles' water diversions from
the Mono Basin; and
WHEREAS, no conclusive studies have been completed
to date concerning all the impacts associated with a reduction
in the Los Angeles water and energy supply; and
WHEREAS, loss of Mono Basin water would affect all
California water users, not only those in Los Angeles; and
WHEREAS, loss of Mono Basin water would require the
replacement of clean hydroelectric power produced in power
plants located along the Los Angeles Aqueduct with 400,000
barrels of oil; and
WHEREAS, there are still many environmental concerns
which must be addressed before an adequate decision on the
Mono Basin problem can be made.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council
of the City of Anaheim that it does strongly support Assembly
Bill 2182 that provides for a comprehensive study of the Mono
Basin issue, and opposes any legislation which would curtail
the Los Angeles diversions from Mono Basin until such
comprehensive study is made.
THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION is approved and adopted by
the City Council of the City of Anaheim this 1st day of April,
1980.
