RESOLUTION NO. 68R-54l
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ANAHEIM CHANGING THE NAME OF EAST
STREET NORTH OF THE RIVERSIDE FREEWAY TO
RAYMOND AVENUE.
WHEREAS, East Street and Raymond Avenue are names given
to the same continuous arterial highway running north and south
in the cities of Anaheim and Fullerton; and
WHEREAS, that portion of said street alignment extend-
ing between the Riverside Freeway and Orangethorpe Avenue has a
dual name; namely, East Street (on the west side) in the City of
Anaheim and Raymond Avenue (on the east side) in the City of
Fullerton; and
WHEREAS, only one name, Raymond Avenue, is assigned to
the same street alignment northerly of Orangethorpe Avenue,
although said street is partly in the City of Anaheim and partly
in the City of Fullerton; and
WHEREAS, the Orange County Street Naming Committee has
recommended that the name of that portion of East Street, between
the Riverside Freeway and Orangethorpe Avenue, in the City of
Anaheim be renamed Raymond Avenue, and that the name "East
Streetll be retained for that portion of said street alignment
south of the Riverside Freeway, in order to avoid confusion and
to permit freeway signing for both East Street and Raymond
Avenue; and
WHEREAS, the City Planning Commission did, on August 12,
1968, hold a public hearing on said proposed change of street name,
and did adopt its Resolution No. PC68-250 recommending to the
City Council that the west side of East Street north of the
Riverside Freeway be renamed "Raymond Avenue"; and
vlliEREAS, after a thorough study of the matter, the City
Council does find that less confusion would result if one name
were assigned to said street northerly of the Riverside Freeway,
and that by reason of this fact and in order to permit double
freeway signing, the name "Raymond Avenue" should be assigned
to that portion of said street in the City of Anaheim between
the Riverside Freeway and Orangethorpe Avenue.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Anaheim that the name of that portion of East Street,
between the Riverside Freeway and Orangethorpe Avenue, in the
City of Anaheim be, and the same is hereby changed to Raymond
Avenue; and that the name "East Street" be retained for that
portion of the East Street-Raymond Avenue Street Alignment south
of the Riverside Freeway.
