'~ :~ ;i `; WHEREAS~ 1,he Anaheim City Planning Commissio;~ on December 2, 1968, recommended to the City Council that 1:he Oranqe County Street ldaming Committee be urged to rename the new north-south alignment of Orchard Drive~ and the existing Orchard Drive extending between the Imperial Freeway and Yorba Linda Boulevard~ to Kellogg Drive; ar.d WHEREASy subsequent to the aforementioned recommendation, Orchard Drive southerly of the Imperial Freeway to the new alignment became a part of the City of Anaheim in the Oi:;hard Drive Annexation; and WHEREAS~ the Orange County 5treet Naming Committee rsquested affirmation that the City of Anaheim would rename th~~t portion of Orchard Drive recently annexed to the City as Kellogg Urive; and Wh~i{EAS~ the City Planning Co.mmission did hold a public hearing at the City Ha11 in the City of Anaheim on January 13, 1969, at 4:00 OTclock P.M., notice of said public hearing having been duly given as required by law and in accordance with the provisions of the Anaheim Municipal Code~ to hear and consider evidence for and against said proposed street name change, and to investigate and make findings and recommendations in connection therewith; and WHEREAS~ said Commission, after due inspection, investigation, and study made by itself and in its behalf~ and after due consideration of all evidence and reports offered at said hearing~ does find and determine the following facts: 1. That the original alignment of Orchard Drive has been so named since before 1905. 2, That the Orchard Drive Elementary School located on the west side of said street was named after that street which served as an identity for the school. ~~ ~ I a * d ,~ ,+t~ 3. That although the Orange Count.~ Board ot Supervisors was desirous of giving recognition to a loiig time resident of the County for devoted service to the County in varying volunteer capacities, this recognition could be r~ade by naming new streets in the County rather than changing a long-standing street name. 4. That Orchard Drive between Yorba Linda Boulevard and Orangethorpe Avenue has borne the same name thru several jurisdictions; therefore, the criteria of continuity of a street name would not apply in considering a street name change. 5v That the City of Yorba Linda indicated no opposition to a street name change, however, development along that street in their city would not be affected since all development backed onto the street. fi. That one person appeared before the Commission in opposition, and a letter from a business firm l~cr~ted on Orchard Drive was received also in opposition. ~ ; ,. `. ~ L' `. . i>;• ,4 r, .k NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Pianning Commission does hereby recommend to the City Council of the City of Anaheim that the street known as Orchard Drive~ a portion of which is within the jurisdiction of the City~ remain unchanged.
