A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY PLANNINC COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM
THAT PETITION FOR VARIANC~ N0. 2420 BE DEN£ED
WHEREAS, the City Planning Commission of the City of Maheim did receive a verified Petition for Varisnce
from STANDARD OIL.OF CALIFORNIA, Post Office Box 31, Long Beach, California 90801, Owner;
AMERICAN PERMIT S~RVICE, Post Office Box 364, La Puente, California 91747, Agent of certain
real property situated in the City of Anaheim, County of Orange, S:.ate of California, as
described in Exhibit "A" attached hereto and referred to herein as though set forth in full
; end
WHEREAS, the City Flanning Commission did hold e public heering at the City Hell in the City of Anaheim
on August 21, 1972, at 2:00 o'clock P.M., notice of said public hearing having been duly given
as requiced by law and in accordence with the provisions oE the Maheim Municipel code, Chepter 18.68,to heer
and considec evidence far end against seid proposed conditionel use and to investigete and meke findings and
nc~ommendetions in connection thecewith; and
WHEREAS, said Commission, after due inspection, investigetion, and study made by itself and in its be-
helf, end aEteF dne consideraticn of ell evidence end repods offered at said hearing, does find end determine the
following fects:
1. That the petitioner requests variances from the Anaheim Municipal
Code as follows:
a. SECTZON 18.62.090(B-1) - Minimum distance between free-standing
s~ns. (300 feet required; 65 feet
proposed)
b. SECTION 18.62.090(B-1) - Maximum number of free-standing signs.
(3 proposed; 1 permitted)
c. SECTION 18.62.090(B-2) - Minimum sign height.
(8 feet required; 6~i feet proposed)
d. SECTION 18.62.09C(B-5) - Minimum distance to a property line.
(58 feet required; 47 Eeet proposed)
2. That signing as proposed is far in excess of signing permitted within
the Si.gn Ordinance, and to grant subject petition would be establish-
ing an undesirable precedent wherein every other service station in
Anaheim could request similar signing.
3. That the Planninq Commission earlier in 1972 had denied a similar
request with a finding that approval would establish a precedent
for mass signing of other service stations throughout the city, and
no changes have occurred to warrant favorable consideration of tris
petition.

4. That the petitionar is proposing to increase the nu~ber of signs on
these service station sites from four to eight times that permitted
by Code, ~hereby automatically granting the petitioner a privilege
not enjoyed by other commercial and industrial developments through-
aut the city.
5. That there are no exceptional or extraordinary circums±ances or
conditions applicable t~ the property involven or to the intended
use of the property that do not apply generally to the property or
class of use in the same vicinity and zone.
6. That the requested variance is not necessary for the preservation
and enjoyment of a substantial property right possessed by other
property in the same vicinity and zone and denied to the property
in question.
7. That the requested variance will be materially detrimental to the
public welfare or i.njurious to the property or improvemer.ts in such
vicinity and zone in which the property is located.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED thet the Anaheim City Planning Commisaion does hereby deny subject
Petltion for Veriance on the besis of the efocementioned findings.
