A RESOLUTION OF THE ANAHEIfVI Ci fY PLANNING CUMMISSION
RECOMMENDING CITY COUNCIL AOOPTION 0~ THE
ANAHEIM REtiORT IDENTI7Y PROGRAM
WHEREAS, In 1989, the City ~f Anaheim initiatod thu Comniercial Recreatlqn Area
Enhencomont Program and Transportation/land Use Strategy Flan. The Goal of the City's effoRs ws~s tu
address the need for visuai onhs~cQment and in(rastructure Improvaments in the Commercial Rec,eation
area. Soecifically, tho Commercial Recrdatlon Area Enhancement Program's goal was to comprehenaively
address signage, landscaping, and cther land use arul site development lasues. The Transportetion/land
Use Stratogy Plan's goal was to assess e:cisting and tuture transportati~n condit~ons and recommund
improvements commensurate with land us~a intensiHcation proJections over the next 20 yaars. In 1990, in
connection wfth these studiea, tho City Councfl adopted a revlsed C-R Zonfn~~ Urdinance and establishod
Ddslgn Guldelines for the area. The Commercial Racr~atlon Area has been :edesignated tha An~aheim
Resort; and
WHEREAS, the Anahgim Resort encompasses approximately 1,OA6 acres whlch are
designated on the CRy of Anahelm GenerAl Plan ior Commercia! Recreatlon land useg (the Anaheim Resort
bounclarfo~ ere shown (n AKnchment A to thia Resdution which is incorporeted heroin); and
WHEREAS, In 1953, the Cfty Council approued the Dianeyland Resort Spec!fic 1'lan and
EIR, a proposal for upproximetely 489.7 acres in the Anaheim Res~rt tu dcw~lop an internatlonal multl-day
resort including a saconcl theme park, hotel rc~oms, Internal tranaportation gystems, public perking tacllitiea,
radministrative offfcea and ongolnp modNictition of the existinfl ~ianeyland theme park. In 1894, the Cfty
Councll subsequontly approved the Hotel Circle SpecHic Plan to provkle for a dav~iopment ot 700 now
ho2el rooms on approximately 8.8 acre~ in the Anahefm Resort; and
WHEREAS, tn order to pravide a long range comprohenslve pian for tuture dovelopment
tor the remainin{~ propartles in the Anaheim Fiesort and to further Im~lement the ~oals of the almve-notad
studies, City atatf began work In 1991 on the Anaheim ResoK SpocNic Plan and EIR; and
WHEREAS, on August 29, t994, the Planninq Commi~sion recommended that the City
Cour~cil adopt the Anahoim Nesort Specific Plar~ Nu. 92•2; and
WHEREAS, the Anaheim Resort Identfry Proyr~m (on fUe wfth the Planning Dapartment)
contains specHic recommendations fcr the loct+tfon end design of gateways, d(rectional signs, bannors,
Ilght Ilxturas, and atr9et tumRure which are proposecl t~ coMribute to creating an Identlty ~or tha Anaheim
Resort. Ail si~n and identfty elements havo t~en designe~ to r,oiti~lement and be conaistant with ihe
Publfa Roalm landscape concepts deacr(bed in the Anahelm Reson Publfc Ret+lm I~nclscapo Program,
convey a warmth and triendliness that will make visrtors feet welcome, emulate tradkfor el g~rden ~lements,
such es trellisea, gar~en benthes ar-d other typicel parden archkuctural eleirent$, h-v,f, have an opon,

south of Manchester Avenue And just north of the Orangewoai/Harbor F3ouleva-d
in4ersocilon) and Katella Avenue (gateway element withln the median and rratchin~
columns in the parkways oast ot the (ntersoctlon wlth Welnut Streot and west of the
intorse~~~~n with Haster Street/Anaheim Boulevard). The gatewsy elaments wili include
a trellis-Iike str.icture, ~geantry, the Anahetm Resort logo, special ni~ht Ilghting eHects
and colorful larxlscaping which wilE establish a testive sense of arrival.

at three mA~or intersections (Harbor Bouleverd/Katella Avenue, Harbor
Boulevard/Fruedman Way, and Ka~elca Avenuo/West Streot/Disnoyl~nd Drive) to fdentify
the major stroets in the area and tho rnr:ior landmarks. These signs are maps imbedded
in the sidewalk on each of the corners. Ttie mep wll~ be ~abrictited frorn cast bronzo (thls

IdentHicallon, Is designeci to reintorco the Identfty of the Anahelm Resort and complement
the other strAetscape elements. The dosl~n includes standgrdlzed columna with the sign
faco (~n intemally Illuminated sign box) and base te increaso In length dopending upan
the size of the propeKy. Propertles wlth irontages between 6~ and 150 fee: would t~ave
a 52-s~uare foot slpn panel, propenles ~reater than 150 feet to 30Q feet would have a
64-sq~-are foot sign panel, and propertles greater then 300 feet would havo ~n AO•square
toot s~gn panel, The slgn panel iniormation would be dosigned by the pro~erty/business
owner. A standard mdd would be made (or the butf colored columns and base ~loments.
Tho cdumn m~ld wouid have an embossed diamond patt~rn with a reness for the
Anahefm RosoR logo tile. A standard street numbe~ sign will bo mounted to the top of
all sign boxes.
