Cultural & Heritage 2019/12/19MINUTES CULTURAL AND HERITAGE COMMISSION Downtown Anaheim Community Center – 250 Center St., Anaheim, CA 92805 December 19, 2019 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: STAFF PRESENT: Mark Daniels, Vice Chair Jane Newell, Heritage Service Manager William Camargo Holly Unruh, Community Services Superintendent Karl Squitier Eleanor Granflor, Sr. Secretary Karen Uyematsu COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Rida Hamida, Chair Julie Brunette Suman Marwah A G E N D A A C T I O N T A K E N 1. CALL TO ORDER: Vice Chair Daniels called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Commissioner Uyematsu. 3. UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: The following individuals spoke on behalf of and provided information regarding the recommendation of Indigenous Peoples Day: a) Dr. Patricia Adelekan, former Cultural and Heritage Commissioner b) Mazatl Tecpatl Tepehyolotzin c) Michele Castillo d) Lupe Donaghey e) David Garcia f) Diana 4. SCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: None. 5. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Vice Chair Daniels presented the November 21, 2019 minutes to the Commissioners for changes or corrections. Vice Chair Daniels made a motion to approve the November 21, 2019 minutes, seconded by Commissioner Camargo. There were four votes in favor to approve the minutes; Vice Chair Daniels accepted the minutes. 6. SUB-COMMITTEES: a) Center Gallery: Holly Unruh stated the committee is still accepting applications for the upcoming year. b) Public Art Program: Commissioner Camargo reported the sub-committee is in the process of working with the representatives in receiving community input for the Public Art Plan. c) Poet Laureate: Commissioner Camargo stated the Poet Laureate interviews will held on January 9, 2020. d) Heritage: Jane Newell reported staff is currently looking at plaque material for the heritage markers. e) Culture: Commissioner Squirtier requested to table this information to the February meeting. 7. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS: Holly Unruh reported the recommendation for the Indigenous Peoples Day was finalized and signed by Chair Hamida. Cultural and Heritage Commission 12/19/19 Page 2 A G E N D A A C T I O N T A K E N Jane Newell provided the following information:  The annual Mystery Author’s Luncheon and Silent Auction that is scheduled for April 19, 2020.  Anaheim Public Library Holiday Hours Holly Unruh provided information for the Winter Solstice Hike Night at Oak Canyon Nature Center. 8. ADJOURNMENT: Vice Chair Daniels adjourned the meeting at 7:02 p.m. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. at the Downtown Anaheim Community Center, 250 Center St., Anaheim CA 92805.
