Cultural & Heritage 2020/08/20MINUTES CULTURAL AND HERITAGE COMMISSION TELECONFERENCE August 20, 2020 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: STAFF PRESENT: Rida Hamida, Chair Jane Newell, Heritage Service Manager Mark Daniels, Vice Chair Holly Unruh, Community Services Superintendent William Camargo Eleanor Granflor, Sr. Secretary Karen Uyematsu COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Julie Brunette Suman Marwah A G E N D A A C T I O N T A K E N 1. CALL TO ORDER: Chair Hamida called the meeting to order at 6:49 p.m. 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Vice Chair Daniels. 3. UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: None. 4. SCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: None. 5. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Chair Hamida presented the December 19, 2019 minutes to the Commissioners for changes or corrections. Vice Chair Daniels made a motion to approve the December 19, 2019 minutes, seconded by Commissioner Camargo. There were four votes in favor to approve the minutes; Chair Hamida accepted the minutes. Chair Hamida presented the May 21, 2020 minutes to the Commissioners for changes or corrections. Commissioner Umeyatsu made a motion to approve the May 21, 2020 minutes, seconded by Vice Chair Daniels. There were four votes in favor to approve the minutes; Chair Hamida accepted the minutes. 6. SUB-COMMITTEES: a) Center Gallery: Holly Unruh reported virtual exhibits are now available online. Information can be found on the Center Gallery Facebook page and the Anaheim Community Services website. b) Public Art Program: Holly Unruh reported the Public Art Plan process will take 9-12 months and staff will contact the Public Art Program Sub-Committee with updates in the next few months. Questions were answered regarding the mural proposal recommendation that was submitted by the Commission. Holly Unruh reported there is a new art mural on Center Street (Wells Fargo parking structure) in downtown Anaheim. This was a collaboration between Vineyard Church and the Community and Economic Development Department. c) Poet Laureate: Commissioner Camargo stated the Poet Laureate selection committee has decided to pause the selection process at this time. d) Heritage: Jane Newell reported the Heritage Marker Program will be included in the Public Art Plan. The process has been delayed due to Covid-19 and the lack of funding at this time. Jane will be in contact with the Public Information Office regarding the plaque design. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS: Jane Newell reported there are various virtual programs available through the Library Division. Library staff has also participated with the food distribution and has added crafts and books to the distribution. Facilities remain closed to the public. Holly Unruh reported Community Services is working on programming for the fall season that will include outdoor activities and virtual programs. Indoor facilities remain closed to the public. Holly also reported the Selection of Chair and Vice Chair will be agendized for the next meeting. Chair Hamida reported Commissioner Camargo was featured in the LA Times Newspaper for an outdoor art banners that will be installed at the Muzeo. Commissioner Camargo stated he is participating on the task force to reach out to artists to exhibit at the Muzeo. Chair Hamida reported she was involved in a Taco Truck drive-through events at various mosques to observe Ramadan. 8. ADJOURNMENT: Chair Hamida adjourned the meeting at 7:30 p.m. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. at the Downtown Anaheim Community Center, 250 Center St., Anaheim CA 92805.
