Sister City 2022/04/25CITY OF ANAHEIM SISTER CITY COMMISSION MINUTES April 25, 2022 – 4:00 p.m. COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Paul Anderson, Kevin Barrot, Elizabeth Jabaz, Brian O’Neal, Dara Maleki, Emily Fuentes, Brian Stanley, Taline Cole, LaShe Rodriguez COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Germaine Neumann, James Dinwiddie II, Lori Dinwiddie, Anna Piercy, (Two Vacant Seats) STAFF PRESENT: Kimberly Kelemen, Community Services Karen Harrell, City Manager’s Office GUESTS PRESENT: None Agenda Posting: A complete copy of the Anaheim Sister City Commission Agenda was posted on Friday, April 22, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Anaheim City Hall. I.CALL TO ORDER Vice-Chair Paul Anderson called the Anaheim Sister City Commission (ASCC) meeting to order at 4:07 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2022. II.FLAG SALUTE Vice-chair Paul Anderson led the flag salute. III.APPROVAL OF MINUTES MOTION: Commissioner Brian O’Neal offered a Motion, seconded by Commissioner Brian Stanley AND MOTION CARRIED (Vote: 9-0; Absent: Commissioner Anna Piercy Absent; Germaine Neumann, James Dinwiddie II, Lori Dinwiddie (Two Vacant Seats) that the Anaheim Sister City Commission Anaheim Sister City Commission April 25, 2022 Page 2 does hereby approve the minutes from the ASCC meetings held on March 28, 2022 as presented. IV.APPROVAL OF TREASURER’S REPORT Treasurer Kevin Barrot presented the Treasurer’s Report dated April 20, 2022 with a balance of $15,800.36 and noted there had been no changes in the account since February 2020. MOTION: Commissioner Dara Maleki offered a Motion, seconded by Commissioner Brian Stanley AND MOTION CARRIED (Vote: 9-0; Absent; Commissioner Anna Piercy, Germaine Neumann, James Dinwiddie II, Lori Dinwiddie (Two Vacant Seats) that the Anaheim Sister City Commission does hereby approve the Treasurer’s Report dated April 20, 2022 as presented. V.MITO VIRTUAL STUDENT EXCHANGE No updates, per Treasurer Kevin Barrot, Chair Lori Dinwiddie will be following up with Mr. Wong. VI.REVIEW AND APPROVE GUIDELINES/APPLICATION FOR POTENTIAL SISTER CITIES Vice-Chair Paul Anderson presented the Guidelines and Application for potential Sister Cities and offered a motion to approve the application MOTION: Vice-Chair Paul Anderson offered a motion, seconded by Commissioner Dara Maleki AND MOTION CARRIED (Vote: 9-0; Absent; Commissioner Anna Piercy, Germaine Neumann, James Dinwiddie II, Lori Dinwiddie (Two Vacant Seats) to approve the Anaheim Sister City application. Commissioner Emily Fuentes presented the amended guidelines for approval. MOTION: Commissioner Emily Fuentes offered a motion, seconded by Commissioner Brian Stanley AND MOTION CARRIED (Vote: 9-0; Absent; Commissioner Anna Piercy, Germaine Neumann, James Dinwiddie II, Lori Dinwiddie (Two Vacant Seats) to approve the amended Anaheim Sister City application guidelines. VII.PUBLIC COMMENT None. Anaheim Sister City Commission April 25, 2022 Page 3 VIII.COMMISSIONER COMMENTS Vice-Chair Paul Anderson had contact with Ted White, City of Anaheim Planning Director in regards to current communication/relationship with Victoria-Gasteiz. Current contact is now retired and we now have a new contact and will follow up with them soon. Commissioner Dara Maleki commented on preparing for fundraising. He stated he would offer up the Anaheim Hotel as a fundraising location. Also suggested a fundraising committee. IX.STAFF COMMENTS Staff member Karen Harrell asked Commissioner Elizabeth Jabaz about following up with the Mexican Consulate contact since we now have approved the guidelines and application for those cities that may be interested. Commissioner Elizabeth Jabaz noted that staff at the Mexican Consulate will be changing as of June due to elections and will wait until then to make contact with staff then. X.ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 4:24 p.m. to Monday, May 30, 2022 at 4:00 p.m.
