Sister City 2022/06/27 CITY OF ANAHEIM SISTER CITY COMMISSION MINUTES June 27, 2022 – 4:00 p.m. COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Paul Anderson, Kevin Barrot, Elizabeth Jabaz, Emily Fuentes,Taline Cole, LaShe Rodriguez, Anna Piercy, James Dinwiddie II, Lori Dinwiddie, COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Brian O’Neal, Dara Maleki Germaine Neumann, Brian Stanley (Two Vacant Seats) STAFF PRESENT: Kimberly Kelemen, Community Services Karen Harrell, City Manager’s Office GUESTS PRESENT: None Agenda Posting: A complete copy of the Anaheim Sister City Commission Agenda was posted on Friday, June 24, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. at Anaheim City Hall. I. CALL TO ORDER Chair Lori Dinwiddie called the Anaheim Sister City Commission (ASCC) meeting to order at 4:05 p.m. on Monday, June 27, 2022. II. FLAG SALUTE Commissioner James Dinwiddie led the flag salute. III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES MOTION: Vice Chair Paul Anderson offered a Motion, seconded by Commissioner Taline Cole, Commissioner Anna Piercy abstained AND MOTION CARRIED (Vote: 8-0; Absent: Brian O’Neal, Dara Maleki, Germaine Neumann, Brian Stanley (Two Vacant Seats) that the Anaheim Sister City Anaheim Sister City Commission June 27, 2022 Page 2 Commission does hereby approve the minutes from the ASCC meetings held on March 25, 2022 as presented. IV. APPROVAL OF TREASURER’S REPORT Treasurer Kevin Barrot presented the Treasurer’s Report dated June 23, 2022 with a balance of $15,800.36 and noted there had been no changes in the account since February 2020. MOTION: Commissioner James Dinwiddie offered a Motion, seconded by Vice Chair Paul Anderson, AND MOTION CARRIED (Vote: 9-0; Absent: Brian O’Neal, Dara Maleki, Germaine Neumann, Brian Stanley (Two Vacant Seats) that the Anaheim Sister City Commission does hereby approve the Treasurer’s Report dated June 23, 2022 as presented. V. MITO VIRTUAL STUDENT EXCHANGE No updates, per Chair Lori Dinwiddie and will be following up with Mr. Wong. VI. REVIEW AND APPROVE GUIDELINES/APPLICATION FOR POTENTIAL SISTER CITIES Guidelines and application for new Sister Cities were approved by Commission at the April 25 meeting and will be posting to website for access to those who may be interested in applying. VII. FUNDRAISING Commissioner Dara Maleki was not present to go over any updates, but Commissioners Emily Fuentes and La Shay Rodriguez are onboard to help. VIII. PUBLIC COMMENT None. IX. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS Vice-Chair Paul Anderson had contact with Ted White, City of Anaheim Planning Director in regards to current communication/relationship with Victoria-Gasteiz. Still having trouble getting a contact. The commission suggested the City Manager reach out via a letter to start the communication with a possible new contact. Commissioner Emily Fuentes suggested promoting the Sister City Application process on the City of Anaheim’s social media. Staff member Karen Harrell will talk with Chief of Communications, Mike Lyster to discuss and will follow up with commission. Anaheim Sister City Commission June 27, 2022 Page 3 Commissioner Elizabeth Jabaz talked about the many Latin American cities that the consulate has said are interested in becoming Sister Cities and will gather information and introductory videos from 4 cities for the commission to review. Chair Lori Dinwiddie made a special comment and compliment that came from a different Sister City group to Treasurer Kevin Barrot stating he was doing an amazing job and how great the Facebook page looked. X. STAFF COMMENTS None. XI. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 4:22 p.m. to Monday, July 25, 2022 at 4:00 p.m.
