Sister City 2022/10/24 CITY OF ANAHEIM SISTER CITY COMMISSION MINUTES October 24, 2022 – 4:00 p.m. COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Elizabeth Jabaz, James Dinwiddie II, Lori Dinwiddie, Dara Maleki, Paul Anderson, Emily Fuentes, LaShe Rodriguez, Anna Piercy, Kevin Barrot, Brian Stanley, Taline Cole COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Germaine Neumann, Brian O’Neil, (Two Vacant Seats) STAFF PRESENT: Greg Garcia, City Administration Karen Harrell, City Administration GUESTS PRESENT: None Agenda Posting: A complete copy of the Anaheim Sister City Commission Agenda was posted on Friday, October 21, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. at Anaheim City Hall. I. CALL TO ORDER Chair Lori Dinwiddie called the Anaheim Sister City Commission (ASCC) meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 24, 2022. II. FLAG SALUTE Commissioner James Dinwiddie led the flag salute. III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES MOTION: Commissioner James Dinwiddie offered a Motion, seconded by Commissioner Anna Piercy, AND MOTION CARRIED (Vote: 9-0; Absent: Brian O’Neal, Germaine Neumann, (Two Vacant Seats) that the Anaheim Sister City Commission does hereby approve the minutes from the ASCC meetings held on June 27, 2022, July 25, 2022, and August 22, 2022 as presented. APPROVAL OF TREASURER’S REPORT Vice-Chair Paul Anderson presented the Treasurer’s Report dated October 21, 2022, with a balance of $15,800.36 and noted there has been no changes in the account since February 2020. MOTION: Vice-Chair Paul Anderson offered a Motion, seconded by Commissioner Brian Stanley, AND MOTION CARRIED (Vote: 9-0; Absent: Brian O’Neal, Germaine Neumann, (Two Vacant Seats) that the Anaheim Sister City Commission does hereby approve the Treasurer’s Report dated October 21,2022. V. MITO VIRTUAL STUDENT EXCHANGE Chair Lori Dinwiddie spoke to Mr. Wong regarding the student exchange and are planning to do in person in 2023. VI. DISCUSS LETTER FROM CITY MANAGER TO VICTORIA-GASTEIZ Chair Lori Dinwiddie stated we will wait to mail out letter and gifts to Victoria-Gasteiz until new Commissioners are established. VII. PUBLIC COMMENT None. VIII. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS Commissioner Dara Maleki suggested a “forum” to help train or guide the new Commission to help them get started. Chair Lori Dinwiddie and commissioner Taline Cole suggested a secure shared drive to save all documents that the current commissioners have including schedules, fundraising, letters, applications, etc. Commission Lori Dinwiddie also suggested that all commissioners bring back notes, comments, to pass on to new commission for an easier transition at the next meeting on November 28, 2022. IX. STAFF COMMENTS Staff Member Greg Garcia explained the restructuring of the Sister City Commission. It will be a total of 15 members. 8 will be appointed at-large by applying through City Clerk. 7 of the members will be appointed by council. The restructuring will go to City Council on Tuesday, October 25, 2022. There will be a second review of the decision to restructure and will be official December 1, 2022. First or second council meeting once election passes in January the council will then be asked to recommend who they would like to appoint from their district.
