A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ANAHEIM REQUESTING APPROPRIATE
ACTION TO SUPPORT THE RIVERBANK OF THE
SANTA ANA RIVER AT THE BURRIS SANDPIT.
WHEREAS, in the unincorporated area of the County of
Orange bordering on the City of Anaheim South of South Street and
between the City boundary and the Santa Ana River there is being
operated a sand and gravel extraction activity generally known
as the Burris Sandpit; and
WHEREAS, the extraction of sand and gravel in this area
could impair the support of the riverbank of the Santa Ana River;
and
WHEREAS, a recent condition at the Burris Sandpit
indicated that the riverbank may already be impaired; and
WHEREAS, failure of the riverbank at the Burris Sandpit
could cause serious flood damage to the City of Anaheim under
heavy rains; and
WHEREAS, failure or sliding of the other walls of the
sandpit could cause serious damage to public and private property
in the City of Anaheim.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council
of the City of Anaheim that a request is hereby made to the
Board of Supervisors of the County of Orange for every possible
action to be taken by the County and all departments thereof to
insure that no further impairment of the riverbank at Burris
Sandpit be permitted to occur; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County of Orange take
appropriate action to guard against impairment of lateral support
of public and private property in the area of the Burris Sandpit;
and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County of Orange take
appropriate action to guard against failure of the riverbank at the
Burris Sandpit in the event of heavy rains and flooding condition;
and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution
be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors of Orange County.
THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION is approved and signed by me
this 18th day of February, 1969.
