66-294WHEREAS, Proposition "W," the $850,000,000 Water
Bond issue to distribute Northern California water in the
Southland, will appear on the June, 1966, ballot; and
WHEREAS, this measure, sponsored by the Metro-
politan Water District of Southern California, provides for
the construction of a huge new tunnel and pipeline system to
deliver more than 2,000,000 acre -feet of water annually to
the District's member agencies on the coastal plain; and
WHEREAS, the District's population of more than
9,800,000 people is expected to nearly double within 25 years;
and
WHEREAS, the Water Bonds will help finance works
which will provide for our water needs until at least 1990;
and
WHEREAS, issuance of the bonds is expected to have
little, if any, effect on our property tax rate; and
WHEREAS, the inescapable alternative to passage of
the bond measure would be a substantial increase in the
property tax rate; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Water District,in its
activity in furnishing water to the general public is of
primary importance to the City of Anaheim.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Anaheim does hereby endorse Proposition "W" and
urge every citizen within the Metropolitan Water District to
vote YES on this vital measure.
THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION is approved and signed by
me this 19th day of April, 1966.
