A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF ANAHEIM SUPPORTING SENATE BILL 1015 IN
CONNECTION WITH THE EXEMPTION OF THE SUNDESERT
NUCLEAR PROJECT FROM REQUIREMENTS OF THE 1976
NUCLEAR POWER PLANT LICENSING LEGISLATION.
WHEREAS, the State Energy Resources Conservation
and Development Commission has approved the Sundesert
Nuclear Project ( "Sundesert ") notice of intention to file
an application for certification; and
WHEREAS, the Energy Resources Conservation and
Development Commission has recognized a need for substantial
additional generating capacity in the mid- 1980's for Southern
California; and
WHEREAS, the Sundesert nuclear Project will meet
this need in an environmentally sound manner; and
WHEREAS, no practical generating resource alterna-
tives to the Sundesert Nuclear Project have been identified
that are commercially available, economically comparable or
environmentally acceptable and which can provide energy
requirements of the City in the mid- 1980's.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council
of the City of Anaheim that the City Council urges the
California State Assembly to support and approve Senate Bill
1015 or other legislation which will exempt the Sundesert
Nuclear Project from requirements of the 1976 nuclear power
plant licensing legislation and provide expeditious development
of this vital power project.
