A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ANAHEIM OPPOSING CALIFORNIA MILITARY ACQUISITION
OF EXCESS CALTRANS PROPERTY FOR AN ARMORY AT THE
NORTHWEST CORNER OF IMPERIAL HIGHWAY AND ORANGETHORPE
AVENUE.
WHEREAS, the City of Anaheim, pursuant to the requirements of
Section 65300 et.al. of the Government Code of California, has adopted a
General Plan for the City of Anaheim; and
WHEREAS, this General Plan designates the area at the northwest
corner of Imperial Highway and Orangethorpe Avenue as medium density
residential (up to 36 dwelling units on an acre); and
WHEREAS, the proposed sale of excess Department of Transportation
(CALTRANS) property (Parcel No. 980312- 01 -01) at this location for a
California military armory would deviate from the adopted Anaheim General
Plan; and
WHEREAS, the Community Development Department of the City of
Anaheim has expressed an interest in acquiring this site for low - income
housing; and
WHEREAS, The California State Urban Strategy re4eased by the
Governor on February 9, 1978 recognizes a partnership between the state,
local government, regional agencies and citizens in achieving future
urban development and establishes that the primary role in that effort
belongs to local governments; and
WHEREAS, local state legislators representing the City of
Anaheim and the Governor of the State of California should be notified of
this deviation from the Anaheim General Plan and municipal code;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City
of Anaheim opposes the acquisition of the excess CALTRANS property at the
northwest corner of Imperial Highway and Orangethorpe Avenue by the Cali-
fornia Military for an armory.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that local state legislators and the
Governor of the State of California be notified of this violation of the
adopted Anaheim General Plan and encroachment upon the established land
use policies and the violation of the municipal code of the City of Anaheim.
