WHEREAS, J. L. McBride, Maintenance Engineer for Section One of Joint Outfall Sewer, has recommended the purchase of 1.S0 acres of land in Orange County, California, described as bounded on the west by the center line of Verano Road, on the north by the center line of Ellis Avenue, and on the south- east by Santa Ana River, all as shown on a map forwarded by said J. P. Hapgood, City Engineer, Anaheim Grover Walters, Sewer Supt.,Fullerton C. C. Bonebrake, City Engineer, Orange Gentlemen: Mr. Hearn, owner of a triangular parcel of 1.S0 acres bounded on the west by the center line of Verano Road, on the north by the center line of Ellis Avenue, and on the southeast by Santa Ana River, has stated that he would sell this parcel for $150.00 per acre, or a total of $270.00. An additional expense of making the necessary surveys, title company charges, etc., would amount to approximately $30.00. It appears to me that it would be advisable for the 4 cities to purchase the property now, if same can be acquired without exceeding the expenditure of more than $75.00 for each of the 4 cities. My reasons for purchase are as follows: 1. To be in a position to request the Board of Supervisors to vacate Verano Road south of Ellis Avenue. This stub end of the street is used at night for various purposes by persons in parked automobiles. It is not desireable to have cars parked so close to the plant for obvious reasons. 2. It would be a very definite protection to the treatment plant to have Blue Gum trees planted on this triangular parcel to serve as an additional protection should the levee fail during flood periods. If the above meets with your approval, I would appreciate having your -'ouncil pass a resolution authorizing the City of Santa Ana, as contracting city, to purchase the parcel as above described, and agreeing to pay $75.00 for respective share of expense. Please mail the resolution to this office. Respectfully J. L. McBride, Maint. Engr. Joint Outfall Sewer, Sect.
