1976-5580 • RESOLUTION NO. 76R- 558 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM URGING THE CALIFORNIA STATE LEGISLATURE TO REVIEW THE STATE PROPERTY TAX STRUCTURE AND TO ENACT SUCH APPROPRIATE LEGISLATION AS MAY BE DEEMED NECESSARY TO PROVIDE PROPERTY TAX RELIEF TO HOMEOWNERS. WHEREAS, current property assessments in the City of Anaheim have increased greatly over previous assessments; and WHEREAS, homeowners continue to be the individuals most affected by such increases in assessed valuations; and WHEREAS, the greatest beneficiary of the increase in assessed values will be the State of California, since SB 90 established property tax ceilings for local jurisdictions; and WHEREAS, even though many local jurisdictions plan to reduce property tax rates, such reductions do not substan- tially affect a homeowner's overall tax bill in light of increased assessments; and WHEREAS, the task of bringing equity to the existing tax structure rests squarely with the State Legislature; and WHEREAS, a revision of the tax structure is the most direct and efficient means of providing much-needed tax relief to the overburdened taxpayer. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Anaheim City Council finds the current tax structure to be grossly unfair to the average homeowner. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Anaheim City Council reiterates its pledge to Anaheim residents to maintain the lowest tax rate consistent with providing high quality services. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Anaheim City Council urges all State Legislators to make every effort to review and reform the property tax structure to eliminate the many inequities which currently exist. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we support and encourage legislation designed to provide immediate property tax relief to the beleaguered homeowner. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby directed to send a copy of this Resolution to all area representatives of the State Legislature; the Orange County Board of Supervisors; the Orange County Division of the League of California Cities; as well as the Mayors of all Orange County cities. -1- 0 0 THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION is approved and signed,by me this 14th day of September ' , 1976, ✓"1 E ATTEST:-- CITY TTEST : ` - - CITY CLERK OF TN_-.
