A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF ANAHEIM REQUESTING THE CALIFORNIA PUBLIC
UTILITIES COMMISSION TO PERMIT THE COUNTY OF
LOS ANGELES TO OPERATE COMMUTER TRAIN SERVICE
BETWEEN LOS ANGELES AND SAN DIEGO, INCLUDING
STATION STOPS IN SANTA ANA AND FULLERTON, AND
TO FURTHER ORDER THE SANTA FE RAILROAD TO PER-
MIT USE OF ITS FACILITIES FOR SAID OPERATION.
WHEREAS, the County of Los Angeles has recently filed
a complaint with the California Public Utilities Commission (PUC
Case No. 10296) requesting said Commission to permit the County
to operate coituttuter time period train service between Los Angeles
and San Diego, and to further order the Santa Fe Railroad to per-
mit use of its facilities for said operation; and
WHEREAS, said complaint requests that the aforesaid
commuter train service include station stops in Santa Ana and
Fullerton; and
WHEREAS, residents of the City of Anaheim are in need
of, and desire to utilize, said commuter train service; and
WHEREAS, the availability of said train service to the
residents of the City of Anaheim would result in reduced freeway
conjestion, decreased fuel consumption, fewer air polluting vehi-
cle emissions, and other favorable environmental effects.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Anaheim that the California Public Utilities Commis-
sion is hereby requested, and urged, to permit the County of Los
Angeles to operate commuter time period train service between
Los Angeles and San Diego, including Orange County station stops
in Santa Ana and Fullerton, and to further order the Santa Fe
Railroad to permit use of its facilities for the operation of
said train service.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council does hereby
designate Phil Schwartze of the Planning Department as the City
official appointed to work with the County of Los Angeles and to
testify on behalf of the City of Anaheim before the Public Utili-
ties Commission in this matter.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk shall for-
ward a certified copy of this Resolution to the California Public
Utilities Commission, County of Los Angeles, City of Santa Ana,
and City of Fullerton.
