90-081 RESOLUTION NO. 90R-81
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ANAHEIM SUPPORTING THE 2STH ANNIVERSARY OF THE
LAND AND WATER CONSERVATION FUND ACT OF 1965.
WHEREAS, the Land and Water Conservation Fund (L~WCF) has
had a significant impact on our nation's outdoor recreation
sources, which have greatly contributed to the quality of life in
this nation; and
WHEREAS, recreation areas funded with the L~WCF grants
are protected in perpetuity by a provision of the L&WCF Act, thus
assuring a nationwide legacy of high quality recreation areas and
facilities for the benefit of the present and future generations;
and
WHEREAS, state and local governments have benefited
greatly from the L~WCF combined with matching funds by using these
funds to protect over 2.3 million acres in parks and 20,000
outdoor recreation areas; and
WHEREAS, the City of Anaheim has developed Oak Canyon
Nature Center, Pearson Park and Little Peoples Park with L~WCF
grant assistance; and
WHEREAS, the L~WCF Act was originally set to expire after
25 years, in 1989, but was extended in 1987 through 201S allowing
additional monies to be acquired to develop or rehabilitate
outdoor recreation areas in our local area; and
WHEREAS, the legislation enacting the L~WCF was signed 25
years ago on September 5, 1964 becoming effective on January 1,
1965.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the City Council of
the City of Anaheim endorses the 25th anniversary celebration of
the Land and Water Conservation Fund and will support activities
which positively contribute to this important occasion.
THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION is approved and adopted by the
City Council of the City of Anaheim this20th day of March, 1990.
