RESOLUTION NO. 79R -303
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF ANAHEIM OPPOSING THE PASSAGE OF ASSEMBLY
BILL 787 RELATING TO PROFESSIONAL SPORTS
TEAM SITING.
WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 787, California Professional
Sports Team Siting Act, as introduced by Assemblywoman Teresa
Hughes, would provide for specific regulation of professional
sports team franchises; and
WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 787 is scheduled before the
Assembly's Ways and Means Committee in the near future; and
WHEREAS, the City Council firmly believes that passage
of this bill would create State regulatory powers upon the sports
industry, as well as possible loss of local control to negotiate
joint business ventures for the benefit of the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Anaheim does hereby oppose the passage of Assembly
Bill 787 relating to professional sports team siting.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby
authorized and directed to forward a copy of this resolution to
all Orange County cities, the Orange County Board of Supervisors,
and local legislators urging their support to defeat this measure.
THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION is approved and adopted by
the City Council of the City of Anaheim this 29th day of May,
1979.
