1979-623WHEREAS, the Legislature recently enacted SB 583 which
provides for 80% reimbursement to local agencies for costs incur-
red during the 1978 -79 Fiscal Year for law enforcement protection
under extraordinary circumstances; and
WHEREAS, the City of Anaheim has had to deploy law
enforcement personnel on a stepped -up level to respond to extra-
ordinary circumstances within its jurisdiction, or has been
required to provide a stepped -up level of law enforcement,
utilizing its own personnel, for other local agencies, in order to
honor mutual aid agreements with those other agencies; and
WHEREAS, City has incurred extraordinary costs, as
defined in SB 583, to provide a stepped -up level of law enforce-
ment service due to extraordinary circumstances; and
WHEREAS, said law enforcement functions of the Anaheim
Police Department were performed with impartiality and fairness;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Anaheim is authorized, pursuant to
SB 583, to request reimbursement for extraordinary costs incurred
by them during the 1978 -79 Fiscal Year to meet the added burden of
providing law enforcement protection under extraordinary circum-
stances; and
WHEREAS, said application for reimbursement is in the
best interest of the City of Anaheim.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Anaheim that it authorize, and it does hereby authorize,
the Anaheim Police Department to submit a claim to the State
Controller for reimbursement in the amount of $35,461, pursuant to
SB 583 which provides for 80% reimbursement to local agencies for
costs incurred during the 1978 -79 Fiscal Year for law enforcement
protection under extraordinary circumstances.
