1979-678ATTEST: /in RESOLUTION NO.79R -678 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM REQUESTING THE CALIFORNIA HORSE RACING BOARD TO APPROVE THE FOURTEEN AUTHORIZED THOROUGHBRED RACING DAYS FOR THE ORANGE COUNTY FAIR AT THE LOS ALAMITOS RACE COURSE IN 1980. WHEREAS, the Orange County Fair Board is authorized a fourteen day thoroughbred racing meet at the Los Alamitos Race Course in conjunction with the Orange County Cultural Fair; and WHEREAS, the granting of these fourteen thoroughbred racing days provides the 1,700,000 residents of Orange County an opportunity to enjoy thoroughbred racing within the County which in no way infringes upon the rights of residents of adjacent counties to enjoy thoroughbred racing in conjunction with their respective county fairs or at Santa Anita or Hollywood Park in Los Angeles County; and WHEREAS, by providing these fourteen days of thorough- bred racing in Orange County, the California Horse Racing Board will be meeting the goals of the Environmental Protection Agency by decreasing the distance that Orange County citizens are required to travel to enjoy thoroughbred racing, thereby limiting both the air pollutants and the consumption of gas which would be required to travel further distances to enjoy this activity; and WHEREAS, the State of California, the Orange County Fair Board and the local jurisdictions in Orange County would receive economic benefit from the revenues derived from the full fourteen day thoroughbred racing meet; and WHEREAS, the objections raised by Santa Anita and Hollywood Park to the granting of these fourteen days is a continuation of the failure of these special interests to recognize the needs of the 1,700,000 citizens of Orange County to have a full thoroughbred race meet within the County.
