1968-026RESOLUTION NO. 68p- 26 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM ENDORSING THE STATEMENT PRESENTED BY THE ORANGE COUNTY WATER DISTRICT TO THE ASSEMBLY WATER COMMITTEE RECOMMENDING THAT THERE BE NO CHANGES IN THE METROPOLITAN WATER DISTRICT ACT AT THIS TIME. WHEREAS, Anaheim, as one of the thirteen original cities organizing the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (known as MWD), has long been concerned with an adequate and reasonably priced supply of supplemental water to Southern California; and WHEREAS, MWD has developed into the largest water supply and distribution agency of its kind within the United States; and WHEREAS, one of the original objectives for the organization of MWD has been achieved in the development of an adequate supply of supplemental water as the cornerstone for growth of the area around the City of Los Angeles to assure that metropolis of an ever-expanding economy; and WHEREAS, no portion of the service area of MWD has suffered from a lack of supplemental water; and WHEREAS, MWD's assurance of an adequate and reasonably priced supply of supplemental water has been, and continues to be, a crucial factor affecting the growth of Anaheim and other member cities in Orange County; and WHEREAS, a major portion of the tax burden of MWD has been shifted from the City of Los Angeles to the other rapidly growing portions of MWD, such as Anaheim and member cities in Orange County; and WHEREAS, this outstanding record has been achieved under policies established by the Board of Directors of MWD under present legislation; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Anaheim that Anaheim strongly endorses the statement presented by the Orange County Water District to the Assembly Water Committee recommending that there be no changes in the Metropolitan Water District Act at this time. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby directed to forthwith transmit copies of this resolution to all members of the Assembly Water Committee meeting in Sacramento January llth and 12th.
