A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY CqUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF ANAHEIM TO THE PRESIDENT RONALD REAGAN AND
SECRETARY OF HUD SAMUEL R.PIERCE CONCERNING
HUD'S HOUSING AND COMMUNITY BLOCK GRM~T PRO-
GRANS.
WHEREAS, on September 24, ~981 a mailgram was sent to
Jresident Rea&an by the City of Anah~im urging exemption of HUD'S
Housing and Community Block Grant prqgrams from any additional
reductions; and
WHEREAS, the mailgram to P~esident Reagan was sent
without authorization from Mayor Se~our or the City Council of
the City of Anaheim; and
WHEREAS, Anaheim has made ~reat strides and wisely in-
vested the nearly $10 million we hav~ received since 1975, much
has been accomplished in the way of p~blic improvements and
Housing programs; and
WHEREAS, the City of Anahei~ does recognize the urgent
and overriding need to balance the F~deral budget by decreasing
government expenditures and returning tax dollars to the already
overburdened tax payers.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Anaheim that it does supp~rt President Reagan's
courageous efforts to return fiscal s~nity to Washington, D.C.
The City is aware and it does know that it will require additional
belt tightening. The City of Anaheim is prepared to accept its
fair share of the burden and necessary self-restraint in HUD
programs.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Anaheim cannot
and will not become part of the dooms~yers and cynics who
constantly plead that "it's okay to cut defense expenditures and
others, but don't cut mine."

of Anaheim stands foursquare behind you and will wholeheartedly
