1981-032RESOLUTION N0. 81R-32 A RESOLUTION OF THE CLTY COUNCIL OF THE. CITY OF ANAHEIM MAKING RECOMb4.E.ENDATIONS TO THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS REGARDING THE JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT. WHEREAS, John Wayne Airport is an integral part of the region's air transportation system; and WHEREAS, an extensive and costly Master Plan has been developed that is designed to .determine. the size and service level of John Wayne Airport to the year 2000; and WHEREAS, John Wayne. Airport .currently serves 51% of the. county`s short-haul demand; and WHEREAS, this service will drop to only 340 of demand even with the Master Plan"s recommended improvements; and WHEREAS, the need to reduce the noise impact to adjacent residential areas is acknowledged; and WHEREAS, John Wayne Airport is an enormously valuable county asset which. provides many jobs, contributes millions of dollars annually to the area`s economy, .and is a vital link to the nation's business community; and WHEREAS, no alternative airport sites have yet been acquired which are politically and environmentally feasible, including the. proposed Long Beach off-shore site; and WHEREAS, any changes. in the long range development of John Wayne Airport will require another Master Planning effort, land use study and EIR. NOW, THEREFORE., BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Anaheim does recommend to the Orange County Board of Supervisors; - That immediate. steps. be taken to accommodate- the region's demand for air travel; and - That the majority of th.e raster Plan's recommended actions are appropriate s eps to modernize and make more functional John L9ayne Airport; anal - That the noise. reduction goal of the r•Zaster Plan be established at 7.0 dBs - an 84%. reduction in the high noise impacted area; and -1- - That the. flight levels. be increased from the proposed level of 55 average daily departures to a more realistic 62 per day; and - That the additional flights so authorized by the ,;~._. County be allowed concurrent with reductions in community noise levels, as opposed to a time schedule which delays increases: in needed service for several years. THE.
