93-205 RESOLUTION NO. 93R-205 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM APPROVING THE FILING OF A PROPOSAL WITH THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE FOR FUNDING ADDITIONAL POLICE OFFICERS UNDER THE POLICE HIRING SUPPLEMENT PROGRAM. WHEREAS, through the Police Hiring Supplement Program, the United States Department of Justice will award matching grants over a three-year period to law enforcement agencies throughout the nation to help hire additional sworn law enforcement officers; and WHEREAS, the Bureau of Justice Assistance will target funds to communities most in need and to those local agencies that provide an incentive for communities to develop innovative, locally designed, long-term public safety plans; and WHEREAS, the City Council has reviewed the grant application for the Police Hiring Supplement Program; and WHEREAS, the city of Anaheim desires to enhance crime prevention efforts through proven methods such as Community Policing strategies and target specific neighborhoods that are experiencing significant criminal activity; and WHEREAS, if funded through the Police Hiring Supplement Program, the City of Anaheim wishes to institute and implement an innovative and strategic plan to effectively address the problem of increasing crime in specific neighborhoods. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Anaheim: 1. That the City of Anaheim considers public safety a priority for the citizens and visitors of the City and endorses the proposed Continuation and Retention plan outlined in the "Police Hiring Supplement Program" grant application. 2. That the filing of a proposal with the United States Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, for the Police Hiring Supplement Program is hereby approved. 3. That the Chief of Police is hereby authorized to conduct negotiations and to execute and submit necessary documents including, but not limited to, applications, agreements, amendments and payment requests, required for participation in the aforementioned program.
