94-226 RESOLUTION NO. 94R-226 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM RECOGNIZING THE CENTENNIAL OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM ELECTRIC UTILITY SYSTEM WHEREAS, electricity was coming into practical use in the United States in the 1890's; and WHEREAS, on July 10, 1894, the Board of Trustees of the City of Anaheim (City) adopted Ordinance No. 100 stating the need to construct a City-owned and operated electric system (Electric System); and WHEREAS, on October 27, 1894, city voters, by a vote of 105 to 3, approved an indebtedness of $7,000 to construct the Electric System; and WHEREAS, on April 11, 1895, an estimated 2,500 people celebrated the completion of the Electric System; and WHEREAS, the City's Electric System continues to contribute significantly to the quality of life of Anaheim residents and to the success of Anaheim's businesses; and WHEREAS, along with 2,000 communities with community- owned and operated electric systems throughout the United States, the City will celebrate Public Power Week October 2-8, 1994; and WHEREAS, on April 11, 1995, the City of Anaheim Electric Utility will complete 100 years of service to Anaheim's residents and businesses. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Anaheim that the period from October 4, 1994, through April 11, 1995, be set as the City of Anaheim Electric Utility Centennial Recognition during which time there will be exhibits and other activities commemorating the significant contributions of the Electric Utility to the quality of life of Anaheim residents and to the success of Anaheim businesses. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that April 11, 1995, be set as the day for community recognition to commemorate 100 years of service to the community by the City of Anaheim Electric Utility. THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION is approved and adopted by the City Council of the City of Anaheim this 20thday of September 1994.
