CALL TO ORDER: The meeting of the Cultural and Heritage Commission was called to order by Chair Larsen at 6:34 p.m. 2. UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: None. 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Commissioner Benedict made a motion to approve the minutes for the August 19, 2010 meeting; Commissioner Galanis made a second and the motion passed. 4. D.T.C.C. ART GALLERY SUBCOMMITTEE: Chair Larsen reported that they wanted to have a meeting each month to discuss the gallery but they are having problems finding a time when everyone can meet. She asked if it would be permitted to have Commissioner Benedict added to the subcommittee and Cathy indicated it would. Chair Larsen mentioned the Surface Art Association show will be in the gallery from February 3 rd to April 1 st and asked if there could be a second reception on a Saturday that the artists would be responsible for; Cathy said that the reception could be scheduled on a Saturday rather than during the week if that works better for the artists. Chair Larsen is going to contact La Casa Garcia about catering the Day of the Dead opening. 5. ART FACILITIES SUBCOMMITTEE: Commissioner Deneau reported that he has received some pithy and pointed comments on the First Draft of the Report on Cultural Facilities and they will incorporate those points in the next draft. Regarding the comments by Community Services Director Terry Lowe, he said that he didn't think the views of the subcommittee were clearly communicated. Cathy said that she felt the Commission should ask City Staff to facilitate some of the steps in the Cultural Plan, and that Terry Lowe agrees that the plan needs to be elevated priority -wise to take those steps to bring the Cultural Plan to the attention of and be included in the work of the Planning staff. Chair Larsen mentioned that the recent Shakespeare in the Park at Pearson Park Theatre was presented by APAC, so they are still in existence. Commissioner Deneau said that he has been in touch with them as well. 6. INFORMATION ITEMS: A. Commissioner Benedict None. B. Commissioner Castillo Commissioner Castillo was absent. C. Commissioner Deneau Commissioner Deneau said that the cultural arts season is just beginning so there will be a lot to report in the coming months. Commissioner Galanis Commissioner Galanis reported that the fiestas in East Anaheim are starting as well, with San Antonio first, then St. Martin, Holy Family and St. Roberts. She also mentioned that she saw Mouse Last Dancer in Irvine and asked if there was any location in Anaheim to see foreign shows of that type, and Chair Larsen said that unfortunately there isn't. E. Commissioner Jabbar Commissioner Jabbar was absent. F. Chair Larsen Chair Larsen said that the Gallery application has been successfully transferred to PDF format. She also asked about the website, and Cathy said she has discussed it with Lylyana Bogdanovich in the City Manager's Office. Chair Larsen said they won't be having the "bulletin board" page like before because they weren't able to get organizations to provide information; Cathy said that once the format is set up, small changes and updates won't be a problem. G. Vice -Chair Maya Vice -Chair Maya was absent. H. Staff Jane announced that on Tuesday, September 28, the groundbreaking for Founders Park will be held at the site on West Street. She said there will be shuttles from the parking lot at Central Library due to the limited parking on site. She also announced the Historical Society will hold their Ice Cream Social on Sunday at the corner of West and Center Street at 1 p.m. Also, the Muzeo gala is scheduled for October 9 to kick off the Russian Icon exhibit. Commissioner Galanis announced that she will be out of state for the next meeting. 7. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2010, at 6:30 p.m. at the Downtown Community Center, 250 E. Center Street, Anaheim. 8. ADJOURNMENT: Chair Larsen adjourned the meeting at 6:52 p.m.
