CALL TO ORDER - The agenda having been posted at 11:00 a.m. on September 4, 2012, the regular meeting of the
Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees Nvas called to order by Chair Mathisen at 6:34 p.m.

L INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS
A. FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: Audrev shared that the Friends are
continuing to do Nvell Nvith proceeds from the Central Book Nook. The next book sale is December 1, 2012.
National Friends of the Library Week is October 21 -27, 2012.
B. FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY REPORT: Bruce reported that the Friends of the Canyon
Hills Library (FOCAL) held two book sales and raised over $4,000. FOCAL member Larry Rushing
received the Anaheim Hills citizen of the year award. They have 47 members Nvith 25 of them being very
active. At least four or five volunteers Nvork at the Canvon Hills Branch evervdav in the FOCAL book sale
area.
C. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: Audrey announced the Foundation sponsored
author program Nvill be held on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the Canyon Hills Library and Nvill feature
Authors Sue Jaffarian and Darrell James.
D. UNSCHEDULED ORAL COMMUNICATION: None.
E. WRITTEN COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: None.
F. PRESENTATION ON MARKETING AND /OR SOCIAL NETWORKING TRENDS IN
LIBRARIES: Lori Shensky presented Marketing and /or Social Networking Trends in
Libraries.
IL APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE JULY 9, 2012 MEETING: MOTION: That the Library Board
approve the minutes of the July 9, 2012 meeting as presented. M/S LB /CB 3Ayes.
III. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None.
IV. NEW BUSINESS:
A. HOLIDAY HOURS: Audrey presented the schedule of holiday hours. MOTION: That the Library
Board support the Library System Schedule of Holiday Hours as proposed. M/S RB /CB 4 Ayes.

V. INFORMATION
A. ACTING CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT:
• The Ponderosa Joint Use Library Grand Opening has been rescheduled to Saturdav, October 6, 2012.
• Cvnthia Hicks has accepted the position of Supervising Librarian responsible for oversight of the East
Region (Canyon and East Anaheim) Libraries.
• The City Librarian recruitment officially closed on September 7, 2012.
• Recruitments have closed for Part-Time Librarian and Part-Time Library Technician. Job offers are
being made for the Part-Time Librarian positions.
• Audrev invited the Library Board to attend the Library Division Holidav Staff Meeting /Potluck on
Thursdav, December 6, at Founders' Park.
• The November Library Board Meeting Nvill be cancelled as the regular scheduled date is a holiday. The
December meeting Nvill be moved to Founders' Park which Neill be decorated for the holidays.
• Library staff Nvill be Nvorking Nvith Google Maps to beta test a mobile application that Nvill have the
Central Library's floor plan. Patrons Neill be able to use this application in conjunction Nvith the
Library's mobile application to find the collection area they are looking for and eventually to locate a
specific book.
• The Anaheim Public Library Foundation is Nvorking Nvith OverDrive to provide eBook service for the
Anaheim Public Librarv.
B. PUBLICITY: Included in packet.
C. LEGISLATIVE UPDATE: Audrev shared an update on legislative action in regard to the privatization of
libraries.
VI. ACTIVITY REPORTS
A. CENTRAL ADULT & YOUTH SERVICES ACTIVITIES & STATISTICS: Audrev shared that the
Library Nvill be partnering Nvith Anaheim Disposal to provide programs in the fall that Nvill feature a
recycling theme book and craft using recycled materials. Kathy Pezzetti Nvill be coordinating this system-
Nvide.
B. OPERATIONS ACTIVITIES: Included in packet.
C. BRANCH SERVICES: Audrey highlighted the upcoming activities to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
VII. MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT /CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: None.
VIII. BOARD ITEMS
DR. ROBERTO BAEZA — Thanked the Library Board for the congratulations gift they sent to him.
Roberto enjoyed attending the Libran- Division Staff Meeting, particularly hearing Tern- LoNve speak. He
Nvas very impressed and is proud to say that Teri LoNve Nvorks for the City of Anaheim.
LANA BARLOW — Echoed Roberto 's sentiments regarding Terry LoNve and added that she appreciates
how Terry ahvays makes her feel included in the Citv.

CAROLYN BRYANT — Expressed that she is excited to attend the Author Program sponsored by the
Foundation on September 15. She attended the Friends of the Canyon Hills Library book sale. Carolvn
visited the Ponderosa Joint -Use Library the first day it Nvas open to the public and is looking fonvard to the
official grand opening.
LINELL MATHISEN, CHAIR — Attended the Teddv Bear Picnic at Canvon Hills Library and the Friends
of the Canvon Hills Library book sale. Linell Nvas happy to donate white boards to the Friends for their
sale. She is looking fonvard to the Author's Program on Saturday, September 15.

A. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting Nvill be Monday, October 8, 2012 at the Euclid Branch Library.
