Broadway 6:30 p.m. Anaheim, CA 92804 CALL TO ORDER - The agenda having been posted at 11:00 a.m. on August 6, 2013, the regular meeting of the Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Crawford at 6:35 p.m. PRESENT: Carolyn Bryant, Laurie Crawford, David Robert "DR." Heywood, Linell Mathisen ABSENT: Stan Oftelie STAFF: Audrey A. Lujan, City Librarian, Jennifer Foxx, PT Senior Secretary, Guadalupe Gomez, Library Services Manager GUESTS: Bruce Brown, Friends of the Canyon Hills Library, Helen Carter, Friends of the Anaheim Public Library L ADMINISTER OATHS TO LIBRARY BOARD MEMBERS: The Oath or Affirmation of Allegiance for Public Office and Employees was administered to David Robert "DR." Heywood. IL INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: A. FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: Book Nook Sales continue to do well. The Friends Board and Audrey have been brainstorming to find a source for donations. An article will be submitted to the Orange County Register requesting donations. B. FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY REPORT: Bruce reported that the Friends will hold a book sale August 26 -31. The Saturday hours at Canyon have increased book sales. In one week they surpassed their monthly average for the year since the reduction of the Saturday hours. Book donations have been tremendous. Bruce is retiring as President after 11 years and Betsy Kasten will assume the office of President in September. Bruce will remain an active member of the Friends of the Canyon Hills Library. C. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: The Foundation held a meeting offsite where Audrey was able to present the Library Board Certificate of Recognition to Kevin Moore. The 2104 Mystery Authors Luncheon is April 6, 2014 and the theme is "Thrillers & Chillers." The Foundation generously gave $4,000 for teen programming. The Foundation also granted the Change for Changes requests, which is money donated to a Branch that is matched by the Foundation. Elections were held for new officers, they are President: Dr. June Glenn, Vice President: Ginny Gardner, 2nd Vice President: Kevin Moore, Secretary: Frank Barry, Treasurer: Joan Pettite. D. UNSCHEDULED ORAL COMMUNICATION: None. E. WRITTEN COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: Included in packet. III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE MAY 13, 2013 MEETING: The minutes of the May 13, 2013 meeting were carried over for approval due to lack of voting eligible Board Members. B. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE JUNE 10, 2013 MEETING: The minutes of the June 10, 2013 meeting were carried over for approval due to lack of voting eligible Board Members. RECOGNITION OF BRUCE BROWN FOR 11 YEARS OF SERVICE AS PRESIDENT OF THE FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: Bruce Brown, President of the Friends of the Canyon Hills Library is retiring after 11 years of service. The Library Board expressed their appreciation for his dedication and commitment to the Canyon Hills Library. B. VIRTUAL BRANCH: Audrey shared the Virtual Branch Report that will be included in the Library Board Packet beginning in September. This report will have the statistics for the virtual services offered by the Library, such as mobile app users, eBook statistics, etc. C. REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL ON THE CONDITION OF THE LIBRARIES FOR FISCAL YEAR 2012/13 PER THE ARTICLE IX. APPOINTIVE BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS, SECTION 908. Laurie Crawford presented the Report to City Council. A discussion was held and the following was added to the Report — "The Bookmobile provided uninterrupted service to at risk youth in neighborhoods including Guinida Lane, Anna Drive, and Glen/Neighbors." MOTION: That the Library Board approve the Report to City Council as amended on the condition of the Libraries for Fiscal Year 2012/13 per ARTICLE IX. APPOINTIVE BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS, Section 908 for FY 12/13 and authorize Laurie Crawford, Chair to sign on behalf of the Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees. M/S CB /LM 3 ayes. V. INFORMATION A. CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT: • Audrey shared the Metrics to Measure the Success of the Library Division Report. The elements are linked to lifelong learning, love of reading, community gathering place, and virtual services. • The Friends of the Anaheim Public Library are in need of donations to sell in their Book Nooks. • The Library will be partnering with the Public Utilities Department for Segmented Marketing. Utilities will be sending out free coupons for LED light bulbs to utility customers. To receive the light bulb the resident will take the coupon to their local library. • The presentation made previously to the Library Board on Library Capital Projects by the City Park Planner will be presented to the new Library Board Members and any other interested Board Members on September 3, 2013. • The Library along with the Human Resources Department is conducting a Classification & Compensation Study for the full -time represented employees at the Library. MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT /CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: The Board recognized Bruce Brown for his 11 years of service as President of the Friends of the Canyon Hills Library. VIII. BOARD ITEMS DAVID ROBERT "DR." HEYWOOD — Thanked Audrey and Jennifer for their help, and specifically Audrey for taking the time to meet with him and giving him an orientation on the Library. LINELL MATHISEN — Attended the Tech Tool Bar at Canyon Hills Library. It was nice to test out te h various devices to assist her in what to purchase without the pressure and influence of a sales person. She will bring in boxes of VHS tapes to donate to the Friends. CAROLYN BRYANT, VICE CHAIR — Attended the Art Crawl and enjoyed seeing the Muzeo exhibit. She also attended National Night Out and would like to see a bigger library presence next year. LAURIE CRAWFORD, CHAIR — Attended the Art Crawl and also enjoyed seeing the Muzeo exhibit. She shared a story where she heard a grandparent use the library as a reward for good behavior and was very happy to hear the library being used a positive reinforcement. MISCELLANEOUS A. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be Monday, September 9, 2013 at the Central Library. B. ADJOURNMENT: Chair Crawford adjourned the meeting at 8:20 p.m
