I.INTRODUCTION OFVISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: A.FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: Helen Carter reported that their next Book Sale is Saturday, March 29, 10am-2pm at the Central Library. The Friends have purchased an ad in the Foundation’s Mystery Authors Luncheon Program. Helen expressed appreciation toLori Shensky for the assistance she provides the Friends with flyers, etc. B.FRIENDSOF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY REPORT: Betsy Kastenrequested the minutes from the January 16, 2014 be corrected from “have raised $2,600 for this year so far” to raised $26,000 for 2013. On March 1, 2014, Author Katherine Longshore will discuss her Young Adult Book “Manor of Secrets” at the Canyon Hills Library, sponsored by FOCAL. The next book sale is scheduled forMarch 17-22, 2014.FOCAL is investigating sponsoring a book swap and a magazine donation box at ARTIC. C.ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: The Foundation is mailing invitations for theMystery Authors’ Luncheon “A Time to Thrill” that will be held on April 6, 2014. D.UNSCHEDULEDORAL COMMUNICATION: None. E.WRITTEN COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: None. MOTION:That the Library II.APPROVAL OF MINUTESOF THE JANUARY 13, 2014MEETING: Board approve the minutes of the January 13, 2014 meeting as amended.M/S: DRH/SO4Ayes III.UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None. IV.NEW BUSINESS: A.LIBRARY METRICS:Thomas Edelblute presented the results of the “Digital Edge Initiative” which focuseson improving public library technology services. Anaheim Public Library Board Meeting February 10, 2014 Page 2 V.INFORMATION A.CITY LIBRARIAN’S REPORT: Duncan Tonaituh, an award winning author and illustrator will visit several Anaheim Libraries in March to share his books with children. He portrays, affirms and celebrates the Latino Cultural experience in children’s books. Haskett has a new adultbook club “Let’s Talk Mystery.” Staff will be promoting library programs on posters on the doors in response to the suggestion by Carolyn Bryant. These posters will include a QR code that links to the website. Haskett and Euclid Libraries will be offering free citizenship classes to help people prepare for the citizenship exam. The Coalition for Human Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles had tables at Euclid and Haskett Libraries to provide information regarding Covered California. In addition she providedinformation on resources to helpimmigrants that do not qualify for thehealthplan. OverDrive is sponsoring another Big Library Read. All eBook users will be able to enjoy “Keys to the Kitchen” by Aida Mollenkamp, Food Network and Cooking Channel star without wait lists or holds. The California Public Library Advocates is hostinga Spring Workshop on March 1, for Board of Trustees, Friends, and FoundationMembers. The Anaheim Altrusa Club in collaboration with the Anaheim Public Library and Ponderosa Elementary School will be conductinga Creative Writing Contest for grade 4-6. Laurie Crawford volunteered to be a judge. The Library Division is putting together their budget supplementalsto be submitted. Revised reports on patron count and programming were shared. B.PUBLICITY:Included in packet. C.LEGISLATIVE UPDATE: The California Library Association is hosting their annual “Day in the District.” During the month of February, library supporters are encouraged to meet with their local Assemblymen and Senators to advocate for public libraries. VII.MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: The Board recognized Thomas Edelblute for the Digital Edge Initiative and TasneemWatts and Guadalupe Gomez for offering Naturalization Information Sessions. VIII.BOARD ITEMS DAVID ROBERT “D.R.” HEYWOOD–Attended the Black HistoryMonth Parade. STAN OFTELIE –Requested a presentation at a future meeting on the reduction of collection size. Anaheim Public Library Board Meeting February 10, 2014 Page 3 CAROLYN BRYANT, VICE CHAIR –Attended the State of the Cityaddress.Carolyn donated materials to Friends of the Canyon Hills Library. LAURIE CRAWFORD, CHAIR –Attended the Art Crawl and was happy to see the Muzeo open. Laurie’s husband Richard Crawford is a docent at Founders’Park and in addition helps as a handy man. She announced the Foundations’ Mystery Authors Luncheon at the Colony Potluck and the Friends needing book donations. As a result of this, a young girl who belongs to a group that performs random acts of kindness contacted her. The group’s annual event is coming up and she has to do something for the community and after hearing Laurie’s plea for books has put together an Anaheim used book drive to donate the books to the Friends of the Anaheim Public Library.
